Let's have a thread here to discuss when this mega talented roster faulters on the pp. Our top 5 exceeds the leafs for talent yet due to technical differences is nowhere near as close.

I expect the 5 left hand shot combo to flounder.

Suggest a pp of McDavid pulu drai klefbom and rattie. Good balance of passers shooters and lh and Rd shots.

Imo we need to run one of these:

Option 1: Simple 1 - 3 - 1

******-Lucic-******
Pulju-*-Drai-*-Mcdavid
******-Bouch-******

Option 2:

******-Lucic-******
Pulju-********-Drai
****-Bouch - Mcd***

Option 3:
(I think this one might work very well)
******-Lucic-***Mcdavid*
Pulju-*********-Drai
******-Bouch-*****

Lucic net front, McDavid on the goal line or behind the net where he can roam up either half wall. This would be a very dangerous place to have Connor in since he'd be able to make some beauty passes. Drai on right half wall (one-t), Pulju on left half wall (one-t), and Bouchard at the point.

Said it in the Gothenburg practice thread.

******Lucic** Draisaitl (drifting into the bumper spot)
Rattie********McDavid
*******Bear/Bouchard

******Strome******
*Yama********RNH
**Pulju***Klefbom

The top unit sets up like the old Krueger unit from a few years back (the RNH, Hall, Eberle, Horcoff, Potter/Petry unit)

The second unit focuses on RNH setting up the 3 RH shots, or Pulju/Yama going high to Klefbom.

Agree completely. I've said before that I think the 3rd option would work very will.

I like those options. Way better than the f***ery that McLellan's been dishing during the preseason.

I think that keeping an eye on the Bakersfield PP will be interesting as well. Woodcroft threw the gauntlet down while our PP is the same minus Letestu out and RNH in. It's amazing that Letestu was needed for his RH onetimers yet none of Rattie, Puljujarvi or Yamamoto are in that spot now.

McLellan wants to get his 3M/year for sitting out on a lake drinking beer and fishing...clearly.

To be fair, they put Bouchard on PP1 that last one and it was better. We'll see if it sticks.

Bouchard found himself totally lost when he went up into the corner. Had no clue how to go back to the point and didn't feel comfortable up there. That was obvious.

Pretty sure they just kept McDavid on for the whole thing and didn’t get a full change. It was 5LH to start.

Maybe a bad change, but pretty sure RNH and Drai were still out there.

If Todd ever gets his head out of his own ass and stops trolling us with this 5L 5R setup.. Everybody knows that won't work. It didn't work when he was deploying it as the LAST place PP in 2017/18 after Test Tube was traded. Without one timer options, PK can easily be aggressive on Connor, especially when they're so damn static. Really can't hurt to put the skill from the right side on the PP. Todd is too stubborn and proud to change it up.

PP Unit 1 - 1-3-1

Doubt we will see this setup this season because Todd. Eventually we need to get to this.. Many top tier PP's run this setup. Multi layered options with Connor McDavid as the QB. He gets 3 one time options rather than staring at his teammates asses with ZERO in the current 5L setup.
1- he has the shot.
2- Drai can pop out for a goal line attack. (and two RHS backdoor)
3- Yam in the slot. Dangerous quick shots from Yam. Seen him bury plenty of jr goals from the soft area in the pk box.
4- Jess on the left half boards. Let him roam and get open. He has a big enough shot to score anywhere on the left side. Prefer him here instead of in the slot.
5 - finally have rhs D point shots for a one-timer. 2 in fact, use them to your advantage.

PP Unit 2 - Umbrella

I go with an Umbrella here but most of the action is from the point. It's not the famous Corey Power Potter Play in the sense Nuge QBs and finds Eberle cross seam.. But more so volume shots from the point. Basically teeing each other up for either Bouchard/Bear or Klefbom and a lot of traffic up front.
Always want to simplify it as much as possible on the Umbrella. Either get the point shot through or go cross seam pass through the diamond/box. Nothing fancy with the second unit.

This could be very effective. Only thing is Bear (I think that's who you meant) is 74, not 76.

That would be perfect. Just like the Jets set up with Wheeler (McDavid) feeding two RHS in Scheifele and Laine (Pulju and Yama). Draisaitl could also work magic in front and behind the net.

Klefbom should not man the primary PP unit. Ever.
Guy is so indecisive when he has the puck, its not even funny. And then when he decides to one time, it goes wide more often than not.

Yeah. Something like that. Many teams deploy this type of setup with succession. Ovi's PP is much like it too.
RH Ovi left half boards.
RH Oshie in the slot
LH Backstrom and Kuznetsov QB and pop out.
RH Carlson on the point.

Problem is Todd is too hard headed and prefers to fail with 5 lefties who just pass to each other for 2 minutes.
