The majority of these guys on this list (and already picked) won't be NHL'ers.

There is an 80% chance Gauthier is our next 4C. Regardless of his lack of ceiling, gotta go with the competent and useful NHL player over the "higher ceiling" prospects who more than likely won't ever see a game in a Leafs jersey.

80%? Try 0%. He won't be qualified. He's not an NHL player. And won't be with the leaf organization next year. When you can sign a guy like Moore for $1M every year, why on earth would you keep Gauthier?

And I think several guys to go will indeed play in the NHL.

He'd have been the 4C this upcoming season if he wasn't currently injured. Missing a summer of training and the early part of the season will be a challenge for him.

Yes, it will unfortunately. But actually Smith was the 4C before Gauthier. Smith got claimed off the worst team in a decade and the Leafs STILL chose him over GOAT. GOAT only got in when Smith got injured, then got sent back. And Smith is really bad. Regarding this upcoming year, they still would have signed Moore IMO. Moore is 10x Gauthier for the same price practically.

Your username checks out. Babcock has always spoken highly of Gauthier and alluded to a plan to further develop his offence on the Marlies. Gauthier proved to be a better option than Smith when he was up. Moore is signed for 1 year. Gauthier has 1 more year of not having to pass through waivers. You really think after 4 years of development where he's consistently been praised by Babcock and Dubas they'll just let him go?

And as to what you keep trumpeting about getting Smith off waivers and playing him over Gauthier:

"€œ(Gauthier) has been really good but we'€™re about Freddie'€™s development,"€ Babcock said. "Freddie is going to get an opportunity to go down to the Marlies and play more and we think that is important.

"€œFreddie has lots of good skills, has to get quicker, and more assertive and he has to take the physicality he played with up here and take that to the Marlies. You have to start taking over down there."

And those were the three things he improved the most over the past year... Like a lot.

He's a better player than Matt Martin right now.

I'm with you man. Timashov is skilled but can hardly skate, and people think he's a better prospect than the goat? Goat is a groin pull away from being a very important part of our team penalty killing and playing 4th line duties. It's not a sexy role but he will be an NHLer once his knee heals

gauthier ALREADY has a ROLE in the nhl, he has high defensive potential

Ehh.. When he played with us he didn't really show even "good" defense 5v5.

He's someone that will never (ever) drive possession, so you need to hope he turns into Couturier defensively (without the marginal offensive presence), and be able to put up 20-30 points consistently.

On the bright side in a SSS he's shown that he can slow down the play, which is probably a positive when you're playing with someone like Martin.
