So much better? :D Maybe in his first game but after that not really
Um, quite easily in fact. How's Winnipeg doing without Laine? Seems to me he's not even the best forward on that team and there's a fair argument that's at the best 3rd.

Matthews from about the 30 game mark of last year has been the absolute best player on the Leafs almost every single night with and without the puck.

Toronto is doing pretty good without Matthews. Without Laine Winnipeg wouldn't be in playoff spot. 43 goals ;)

Matthews is more impactful game to game, and has shown an ability to carry weaker linemates Laine hasn't. Matthews has been the notably better even strength player, at the more impactful position. No team that doesn't have a franchise center (which was the Leafs position) is going to take Laine over Matthews.

Historically Brett Hull is one of the best goal scorers of all-time, there are still a bunch of centers with significantly less goals who's career overlap that I would easily take over him to build a franchise. Without mentioning the generational guys, just look at Trottier, Sakic, Yzerman, and even lesser players like Modano.

Matthews also was a Rocket Candidate in year one, finishing tied for 2nd in league goals.

Matthews is so much better than Laine that it’s comical to see the Finnish, Winnipeg fans, and hfboard hipsters say otherwise.

It's really not that comical at all. Matthews gets the nod because he's a center, but it's a slight nod.

It's a shame Matthews has had to deal with some injuries this year. It would be interesting to see what his stats would look like with a full slate.

Dubois is also not getting anywhere near the proper recognition he deserves in this thread

his 5v5 numbers are still better than Laine's even though he's missed 20 games. what he brings at 5v5 is ridiculously valuable

It's funny how you talk of comical and write a post like this.

Say he's better all you want but so much better is ....ng laughable.

Leafs don't have Wheeler& Scheifele. That's not Laines fault.

He also has 43 goals this season if for somehow you've missed it, while playing without those 2 on ES.

How do you rank a draft of players 2 years ago when the majority of them are still playing junior hockey?
