Tim Berhardt video just disappeared before I could watch it. Watched the Chayka interview and then the Berhardt interview was removed.

Berhardt video is back up:

Interesting. It appears that the ASU pick was not entirely political but a test for Mike Van Ryn. Take this crazy four inch growth spurt/positional change box of raw tools kid and "develop" him. Interesting.

Just coming in to post our recent history:

Excluding 2014 forward, our history looks like this

2013 (2 of 6) - Domi (81), Dauphin (8)
2012 (2 of 8) - Samuelsson (3), Martinook (89)
2011 (2 of 8) - Murphy (181), Lessio (41)
2010 (4 of 5) - Gormley (58), Visentin (1), Lindberg (69), Domingue (46)
2009 (3 of 6) - OEL (415), Brown (23), Szwarz (35)
2008 (4 of 8) - Bods (463), Tikhonov (111), Staal (2), Stone (279)
2007 (3 of 7) - Turris (455), MacLean (18), Darling (43)
2006 (3 of 8) - Mueller (297), Summers (70), Ferriero (98)
2005 (2 of 5) - Hanzal (557), Yandle (661)
2004 (6 of 10) - Wheeler (615), Lisin (135), Porter (247), Kolarik (6), Gagnon (38), Winnik (645)

We've got to do better with the last 3 drafts: So far so good bolded
2014 - Perlini, MacInnis, Dvorak, Karlsson, Bunting, Mayo, Westlund, Fiegl, Kulda
2015 - Strome, Merkley, Fischer, Capobianco, Hill, Warren, Looke, Garland, Kallgren
2016 - Keller, Chychrun, Dineen, Kulda, Stewart

only includes dudes we drafted - I'm expecting absolutely nothing from Kulda, Stewart, Karlsson, Westlund, Fiegl or the other Kulda.

Karlsson and Looke need to come over. Both could be bottom 6 players that play for a long time.

Kudla and Kulda aren't related, later one already went back to the KHL I believe.

Yeah we don't have the rights to Kulda anymore.

Looke is on the Sweden WJC invite list again, so there's some hope there.

So glad Keith Gretzky isn't running our scouting anymore. Bruins with another head scratching reach first round pick this year.

I like your optimism, but most of these dudes have not played one game of pro hockey. Hard to say how many will ever turn into productive NHLers.

Just by not ****ing up the first half of the equation (players in), the Coyotes stand to be a lot better in the coming years. There's a very noticeable uptick in the quality of the draftees in recent years compared to what is basically the rest of Coyotes history. Timmy B is a smooth operator.

I just checked my PM outbox for the list I sent into a blind mock draft in May that didn't happen. Fans pick their team and send in a list of names in order and then the organizer does a list based mock. Not enough people submitted lists so it didn't go down. Nonetheless what I found interesting is that in May I had Chychrun 7th, Keller 10th and Dineen 24th. Haha.

Amazing  This draft turned out really great. Even yesterday I thought those players could go at those same spots.

Lol, with the 37th pick I was hoping for Debrincat or Sokolov. I just realized that Sokolov was picked in the 7th round!

Glad we got Deangelo. Still wish we would've tried Sokolov in round 6 instead of a 20 year playing in a tier 2 junior league.

No, I know...the bold part states that so far they still look like Pro prospects.

Which is why is years past we would take guys that clearly have 'zero' chance at ever making it: Examples:

2014: Fiegl
2013: Soleway
2011: Dziurzynski
2009: Weller, Bloodoff
2008: Long, Hextall

That is why I was happy last year that they took a flyer on Garland. If he hits he becomes a great addition to the team. This is also why I would recommend us in the later rounds going to take flyers on the Euro kids as they seem to hit more often...or at least it feels that way.

XM had Nashville writer on and he indicated that the top 17 players on Nashville's list were drafted as top 17. Not exact order but the same names.

Not too surprising, looks like there was quite a clear top 20ish then a complete crapshoot after that

Best way to look at it is not whether these players all reach the NHL or not, but how well we have stacked the odds in our favor that they will. Obviously nobody can truly predict the future (least of all professional scouts).

From the standpoint of odds-making, the guys we have drafted over the past three years have a better shot at making the NHL than the guys we drafted in years previous. Naturally, there will be busts and sleepers - that's just the way things go. But if you ever want to feel better about who we drafted lately, take a deep dive into our draft history leading up to about 2012... :amazed:
