Schalke on the verge of winning the group after winning back to back games over Krasnodar. I guess Nice aren't taking EL seriously? Losing at home to Salzburg...

Roundup of the groups after MD4

A: Fenerbahce with a big win over Manchester United who were poor for most of the match, Feyenoord will be disappointed to drop points in Ukraine as a win they would be in control of the group. Fenerbahce and Feyenoord on 7 points (Fener have the H2H so far) while United on six points. United have the "easier" fixture list while the Feyenoord-Fener will probably determine a lot on MD6

B: APOEL (9 points) on top of their group after a win over Young Boys with Olympiakos in second on 7 points. Young Boys with little room for error after their loss in Nicosia and have to go to Greece next matchday

C: Anderlecht hammer Mainz 6:1 and move to the top of the group on 8 points along with St. Etienne who won in Azerbaijan. Mainz have five points and pretty much need to win both their remaining matches, Gabala eliminated

D: Zenit win the group after winning four of their first four matches. The rest of the group is wide open between Tel-Aviv (4), Dundalk (4), AZ (2). I would guess second spot is between Tel-Aviv and Dundalk surprisingly

E: Roma hammer Austria in Vienna and top the group on 8 points and should win it now. Austria (5), Astra (4) and Plzen (3) fighting for second spot. Austria host Astra which if they win they likely finish 2nd

F: Goalfest in Bilbao as Athletic beat Genk 5:3, Aduriz scoring all five goals. Rapid Vienna came from two goals down to earn a point at Sassuolo. Very tight group with Genk and Athletic on 6 points and Sassuolo/Rapid on 5 points

G: Ajax held on to beat Vigo and are one point away from winning the group (they have already secured passage to the next round). Celta and Standard are tied in 2nd with 5 points with the Belgians going to Vigo next matchday. The winner of that match will secure passage to the next round

H: Another goalfest in Gent as Shakhtar won 5:3 despite going down a goal within the opening 20 seconds. Braga also came from behind to beat Konyaspor. Shakhtar already won the group while Braga/Gent fight for 2nd

I: Schalke win the group after back to back wins over Krasnodar. Krasnodar control their own destiny for 2nd place as if they beat Salzburg at home next MD that will likely be enough unless Nice win in Gelsenkirchen and hammer Krasnodar on MD6

J: Fiorentina and the surprising Qarabag are pretty much through (Qarabag won both matches against PAOK so they have the H2H). Fiorentina heavy favorites to win the group unless Qarabag win by 4 goals over them on MD6

K: Southampton got a deserved win over Inter while despite struggling domestically, Sparta top the group with 3 wins from 4. Inter still bottom of the table on three points and must win both matches to have any chance. Next MD Southampton visit Sparta which could determine top spot

L: Osmanlispor with a shock win in Spain over Villarreal top the group on 7 points and should win the group now. Villarreal and Zurich on 5 points each and Villarreal go to Switzerland next MD

I don't think so. Nice fielded a strong team yesterday, with both Belhanda and Balotelli, so they really wanted to win. But the players probably don't care much (at least some of them) because their showing on the field was desastrous. When you compare to the 4-0 blowout of Monaco a few weeks back or even to last weekend's game against Nantes, it's striking.

Some weird results for the Belgian teams yesterday.

Anderlecht beat Mainz 6-1 while this game was about as even as the game at Mainz which ended in a tie. Anderlecht were very effective and pretty much converted all their chances. Mainz did have an incredible miss when ,I believe, it was 2-1. Great result anyway.

Standard surprised many with their 3-0 win in Athens. Panathinaikos were the better team for most of the game but failed on their chances. Their best player on the night then get a silly red card and after that Standard took over and scored three goals. However I don't see them getting anything from their trip to Vigo.

Gent are having a tough time. They are really struggling after losing both Sels (to Newcastle) and Sven Kums (to Udinese). Their new goalie sucks and there doesn't seem to be any leadership. They started well against Shakhtar, but once they concede one or two goals it's like a house of cards coming down. Just way too many defensive errors once again. Also, Shakhtar are really good, that's a CL team right there.

Genk will be really disappointed with their loss. Not many teams can go toe to toe with Athletic at the San Mames but they did, playing very well and scoring three goals. But they gifted Athletic three stupid penalties and Aduriz scored every single one of them. And as I said before, Bailey is a stud. He was the best player out there and that includes both teams.

Worth noting that Ajax has been really impressive in the Europa so far. Especially given they have one of the tougher groups. They're starting to turn it around under Bosz after the catastrophe that was de Boer. It should only improve for them moving forward too as some of their real academy stars start coming up.

Anderlecht beat Qabala 3-1 in Azerbeidjan and are basically through barring a miracle.

Standard and Genk can both advance with a win as well.

Inter gonna Inter, total control and up two goals at halftime and they blow that lead plus down to 10 men, they are practically out if results hold in this group, and deservedly really

Ajax win their group by beating Panathinaikos 2-0 with basically their B/youth-squad. Minus Westerman, the team had an average age of 19.6, which is insane, even for Ajax standards.

Nouri was pretty much invisable. Couldn't create much vs a thick defense.
Van der Beek was voted player of the match by the fans; had some nice runs.
De Ligt was flat out dominating. Best defensive prospect we've had in years. Comparable to Vertonghen/Vermaelen.
Cerny was off. Made some wrong choices, but at least he kept going forward.

Group G
Ajax beat Panathinaikos and win the group with a game to spare. Standard get a solid point in Spain and have the same amount of points as Celta Vigo and have equal GD (Standard has a better GD). On MD6, Vigo go to Panathinaikos while Standard host the already qualified Ajax. Could come down to goal difference for the 2nd spot

Group H
Shakhtar breeze this group and win it winning all five games so far. Gent-Braga play a 2:2 draw which means Braga enter the last matchday with a one point edge over Gent. Braga host Shakhtar while Gent must win at Konyaspor

Group I
This group is finished, Schalke win it with a game to spare (they too are perfect) while Krasnodar's late equalizer against Salzburg secures 2nd place for them as they have the H2H advantage over Salzburg

Group J
Another tight group especially with PAOK throwing the group on its head following their 3:2 win in Florence. Fiorentina lead the group with 10 points while Qarabag/PAOK have 7. Fiorentina will only need a draw to win the group in Azerbaijan, while PAOK while hope Fiorentina do them a favor and they beat Liberec at home

Group K
Sparta Prague continue their good EL form from last season and win the group thanks to a 1:0 win over Southampton. Inter blow a two goal lead in Israel to lose 3:2 to HBS who scored the last minute winner. Southampton-HBS on MD6 is the H2H matchup for 2nd place, Southampton only need a point

Group L
Wild group, all four teams are still alive and can finish 1st, too many scenarios :D Villarreal are surprisingly struggling in this competition and only drew with Zurich, second division Swiss side atm. Steaua came from behind to beat Osmanlispor

Osmanlispor lead the group on 7 points, while the other three teams all have 6. Osmanlispor host Zurich and with a win will finish first, Villarreal-Steaua is essentially a H2H match for progress into the KO stage

Inter lose to Hapoel. Fiorentina lose to PAOK. Tough night for Italy

tough season for Italian clubs in general in Europe (minus Juventus), but don't worry UEFA will give them 4 CL spots when their 3rd place team has lost like 6 of the 7 playoffs they have played in :shakehead

Napoli might not get out their CL group, Inter will finish bottom of their EL group, Sassuolo might not advance, Roma have been shaky in a soft group

Well the fact that he heard of it only now means they've kept it hidden very well. But the indication I've gotten is that because he mouthed off, he hasn't palyed.

Far more likely is that he wasn't played, mouthed off...and then continued not to play.

But he's in the team now, so he should just play football and justify the move.

He got injured early on, returned for the derby, was the worst player on pitch before subbed off, re-injured himself and then wasn't seen except the bench for a while after being declared fit.
