Yes lads and lassies, it is that time of the year again! This year in particular will be interesting with Bednar coming in and getting a very fresh and new look at the players. He will obviously have different opinion on players compared to Roy and even Sakic have. Additionally, because of the World Cup of Money is taking place at the same time, Avs will be shorthanded a handful of stars. This will only give other players a better chance to show what they can do from 7th round pick to a PTO. I will update this once I have more time to update.

While I don't mind drafting college players it means we are missing some of the players people are most curious about in rookie camp (Jost, Morrison, Clurman).

That's Compher rocking the #37? He's going to become a two-way beast for us, change his number, and then get traded.

Meloche is the one I'd like to see. A lot of upside, according to a great many posts/posters in here.

Yeah. I see Z, Grigo, Bigras and Iggy. Duchene and McLeod were also mentioned.

I hope he gets in a real game, like preseason but B/W or the Rookie thing should be good, is where he can really do his thing.

Maybe I am going into dumb mode, but Clurman isn't slated to head into college until the following year. Does that also make him ineligible to try out at main camp?

If he changes it to 18 we'll know for sure...Might as well look at defenders they'll be targeting. Trouba?

Lots in town already

From those pictures, EJ and Dutchy are here, so at least they got to meet the coach before leaving town. Also, EJ and Z playing together in that picture. Want to see that at camp.

If anyone is interested, Altitude stated rookies report 9/15. The rookie tourny is 9/17 and 9/18. There will probably be a rookie camp from 9/19-9/21 (maybe a day off in there). Vets report 9/22, then hit the ice from 9/23-9/25. It's about to get busy. And fun.

I'm impressed, more people voted for Bigras than I expected. I feel like he has lost his luster after not being perfect for a couple of games late last year.

Voted Bigras because it's safe. There's no way a coach doesn't love what Bigras brings. Yes Rantanen and JTC bring a solid all round game but when compared to their peers they just may not look like enough of difference makers. Bigras plays a solid all around game and is probably going to look like our 4th best defenseman at camp. With Bigras it's going to come down to if Bednar is simply taking the best team he can or if he's going to send specific players back for more minutes.

If Bednar is icing the best team possible I think Bigras plays regular minutes for a full season next year.

I voted Mikko. Just put him on the right side of either Duchene or MacKinnon and watch the magic happen :naughty:

Hopefully Roy leaving means the end of Mikko at center

I'd love for this to happen, but I don't think Bigras will show significantly better than Wiercioch or Gelinas in camp. He might be slightly better, but given the contracts and the fact that the other two are reclamation projects... I think the other two get a shot first.

The way I see it, Bigras would have to be a few levels above Wier and Gelinas to get the final playing spot. I'd say the odds of that are low.

That's exactly what I mean. If Bednar refuses to look at situations and simply looks at who's best, Bigras makes the team. When he starts taking other things into consideration it makes that narrow gap that Bigras may hold over those guys start to go the other way.

Well, those decisions are never made in a vacuum. Not only are contracts a consideration, but Bigras' development is too. Is it better for him to start the season with the Avs, play as the #6 on this team, getting rotated out sometimes (especially early), and getting ~50-60 games... or go down to the Rampage for ~20-30 games, play as the #1 there, and then come up to the Avs as the #6 (or maybe #4/5 if injuries hit) and play ~40-50 games?

I don't honestly think that Bigras is a better player right now than either Gelinas or Wiercioch. Each has their positives and negatives... Bigras is better defensively and maybe a slightly better puck mover (Wier is pretty close there), but he isn't an asset on the PP and doesn't have the frame to play a physical game if needed. Now if we are talking about next season (or even by the middle of this season), I think Bigras will be a significantly better player than either.

If everything we have heard about the new system is true I feel Bigras has great odds at sticking around. Quick decisions and accurate passing. That's Bigras' game. He is probably the best passer we've got back there.

The decisions with the puck are pretty scripted and the passes are short, easy passes. I'd say that actually hurts Bigras' chances as it narrows the gap between him and Gelinas... maybe negates the difference between him and Wiercioch.

I know we didn't see much Gelinas last year but what I did see I disliked very much. He handled the puck in his own end like a frag grenade. Maybe with a better system he'll improve but I'd much rather have Bigras up than him. I won't hold my breath for Wiercioch either. Nonethless, I agree with Henchman's stance on contracts and what potentially could be better for Bigras' development, which is huge for us. In Bednar I trust.

I'm fully expecting Wiercioch to play next to Barrie and that pairing will be used to push the puck and in a lot of offensive situations. I believe it will be quite effective too. It won't be ideal, but I see Wiercioch doing decently in a role that will be over his head.

Bigras should be in consideration for the pp, that's one of the things he does best.

I think they'll try to find room for Bigras on the roster, especially if they keep 8D. With 7 it might be tougher. I know everyone assumes the easy thing is to send him down but that would have been the easy thing last year too.

Also, if Bednar wants the defense to be quick on pucks a good skater with high hockey IQ is suited for effective puck retrieval.
