Here's a fun one to ponder... we lost 5-2 at Amalie to Ottawa on Feb 2nd. If we had won that game (in regulation), then we'd be the #2 seed in the Atlantic with home ice in the first round.

Here's a fun one to ponder too... we lost 3 - 1 at the Prudential center to New Jersey on Oct 29th. If we had won that game (in regulation), then we'd be 3rd in the Atlantic without home ice in the first round.

Don't do this to yourself guys.

It will only make you sad.

Tampa will be back next season.

Sucks that the Lightning are missing the playoffs, but at least it is not because the Lightning are a bad team. They just had **** luck and bad injuries this season. The future is very bright in Tampa. You guys will be competing for the cup next season and i am willing to make a bet on that.

Want a fun one to ponder?

November 3rd against the Bruins. That game went to a shootout. Boston won the shootout.

Bruins finished with 95 points. Lightning finished with 94.

In this sense, the Lightning missed the playoffs because they lost a ****ing shootout in the first week of November.

This just shows that games in November count just as much as in April. The team came out flat and after winning a few early on they all took the foot off the gas, expecting to just float into the playoffs because everybody and their mom (media, analysts, coaches, GMs, players, fans...) was praising our depth and talent, "Cup or bust", etc.

Don't forget the losses to Arizona and the nobody-has-ever-really-been-this-bad-in-the-modern-era Avalanche.

If Kucherov doesn't miss the open net in OT against Montreal a week ago, we're in. Playing the Caps, but still in.

Hockey is a game of inches, folks.

The only saving grace in all of this might be that I fully expect the Lightning to storm out of the gates next year (NPI) because, injuries or not, this was an embarrassment and there's going to be a fire under everyone's *****.

Remember - the Lightning finished with 97 points last year. They also went 9-2 in OT and 3-2 in shootouts; 12-5 in, essentially, coin flip situations. They were 6-7 in OT and 4-3 in shootouts this year; 10-10 overall. They were lucky last year, and those extra points put them over the top. They were merely 50% this year (which is to be expected in coin flip situations!) and that wasn't good enough. Moral of the story - don't leave anything to chance. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

If you recall, They had that 10 game winning streak I think was in feb/mar last season. That made the difference last year.

What a poetic end to the season (depending on your point of view), missing the playoffs by 1 win.

Honestly - it's perfect. This is how close you were. That game in October where you dogged it on the backcheck and gave up the GWG? That's why we're not in the playoffs. That game in December where you were lazy as hell on a line change? That's why we're not in the playoffs.

There are no days off in this league (unless you earn it). This team took too many days off.
