The overall design is there for this one, but for the love of God, keep it flat! Absolutely no need for all those FX.. if it was just solid flat colors it would be one of the better masks in the league.

Okay. Definitely convinced now that to Dave, retro means slightly more matte colours, and no sketched pictures in the whitespace. Because that seems to be about the only difference.
On the bright side, the cleaner look is almost tolerable!

What the **** does that even mean, "storyteller mask"? It's really just synonymous with clutter. Dave is just awful.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the idea of making a mask have two separate sections in line with the top of the cage is not a good look.

I think the one thing that Dave doesn't do himself favours with when presenting masks is that they're too closeup.

Looking at the other artists, the masks are often nearly as busy but they show us more the 'arena view' as the default image.

Fleurys would be an example. We'd probably be harping on how busy it was and joking about his sketch pen fx. But if you step back a little, the images aren't as jarring when it's softened by distance.

Fleury's is predictable.. his helmet is also pretty ugly IMO.
