You only get four years to play college, so delaying it by one year means those four years, you'll be bigger, stronger and better.

A team like North Dakota will not have icetime for a player who is not ready to contribute positively. NCAA is a high level of play compared to high school hockey, the USHL is a good bridge for that. Guys like Wheeler and Pavelski all bridged the gap between high school hockey and college hockey with USHL. USHL is Junior hockey, close in competition level to WHL or QMJHL. The average age of college hockey players is 21 with a range as high as 24 - 18 year olds are exceptions not the norm.

Also, the USHL schedule has over 70 games which is better for experience accumulation than the 40 game NCAA schedule.

You don't actually believe this do you?

Right now Hickey's breakout game is worse than Wotherspoon, Culkin, Morrison, or Kulak. He's big and physical and a good skater but Kylington is a better skater and his breakout game is Brodie-esque. Hickey despite being older is further from the NHL in my opinion, because he is not better than Kylington.
