Currently, the Leafs don't have any 1st. line players they've drafted.

I'm not talking about top NHL players, I'm saying any 1st. line players period.

In the system, maybe Nylander.

Leafs need to hit a homerun this year, perhaps steal someone late in the first round.

Leafs are truly deserving of their place in the standings, but it might just get them a chance at their own Seguin.

And that's exactly what I highlighted. How many players of that list I composed for the Leafs developed into top end talent?

I'd be very happy with anyone from the second tier at Leaf's pick, and the last tier with NSH's pick.

Nice list. I think its safe to say the Leafs won't have to refer to tier-3 and that Merkley will be gone by the time Nashville's pick rolls along though

We need to trade the likes of Kessel, Phaneuf, Bozak, Gardiner and leave this draft with two of Hanifin/Marner/Strome. And get a guy like ROR.

If we are drafting 4th and Columbus gets 6th:

Kessel for CLB 1st (6th overall) + Jenner
Bozak + Gardiner for ROR
Phaneuf for ANA 1st + Theodore
CLB 1st + ANA 1st for CAR 1st (5th overall)

Draft Hanifin 4th
Draft Strome 5th
Draft Roy with Nashville pick

--------------

JVR - Strome - Nylander
Lupul - ROR - Brown
Jenner - Kadri - Panik
Komarov - Gauthier - Leipsic
-Leivo/Holland/Kozun/Carrick

Rielly - Hanifin
Theodore - Polak
Percy - Roy
-Robidas/Loov/Granberg/MacWilliam/Finn

Those usually come from top 5 picks or homerun picks(which are very rare) very few teams get true 1st line players outside of the first round.

but no it's been quite a while, Nylander however definitely has that potential, no reason to think other wise. Also Rielly is looking great and a top 5 pick this year is a blue-chip prospect. so after this draft, we'll have 3(would have had four if we kept seguin pick).

I'm not understanding some of the negativity in general here, we're finally building the right way, and we already have some nice pieces in the system that many teams starting a rebuild would want(i.e Rielly, JVR, Nylander, Bernier pieces of value in Phaneuf/Kessel/Bozak and solid b-prospects like Brown, Percy and Johnson developing nicely).

IMO we already have a better farm than EDM who has been tanking since 07-08, at least we tried to compete but just failed at it, yet we still have more late-round prospects panning out than them, they cant get a good pick outside of the first round.

I'd be pretty ecstatic if we got Roy with the Nashville pick. Seems like strong 2 way defenseman that would be a great compliment to Rielly on the right side (or Hanifin).

Am I crazy/ignorent to think that drafting Marner is essentially drafting Nylander again?

Do we need another undersized skilled winger?

I think Crouse is significantly too low on that list and certainly you could shift the order around in the last tier, but overall, I think that is a good list.

Brandon goals for: 321. Most in the dub. Most goals in the Q is 276. The only CHL team that has scored more goals than Brandon this year is SSM at 327 (after they loaded up with an absurd amount of 95's).

Provorov's offensive ability is starting to become overstated. I like Provorov as much as the next guy, but this notion that his offense is on the same level as guys like Kylington and Werenski is not true.

They led the league in goals at the time of the trades, and their GPG went up .3 and that was almost entirely because of one player.

On a Cup winning club, like Chicago, LA, or Boston they were not loaded with a whole bunch of pure attack forwards. The Oilers are discovering this is not a good formula with 3+ Yakupov kind of on the outside. Not an issue if the Leafs are cleaning house though, and the fact is that Marner might be so much better than Kadri or Nylander that he just bumps one of them. A nice problem to have if all three perform.

This is pretty much spot on and I love having Crouse out of the top ten and later in the first round.

I might be the only one that thinks Barzal > Strome...

I would have absolutely no problems taking Barzal over Strome if our scouts deem it necessary.

I think Barzal is going to tear apart the CHL next season.

No, it's not.

It's my WANT list. Not a prediction of what will happen.

I do not want Lawson Crouse, unless it's with the Nashville pick. Even then I'd consider other player over him.

Prioritize skating/skill/hockey IQ over size. Detroit does that, and Yzerman seems to have brought that mentality with him.

I think Crouse would be a nice complimentary player to Marner/Strome.

No way Crouse is dropping out of the top 15. Too many teams are in need of a scoring power forward.

I guess you'd have no problem taking Crouse over Strome if our scouts deem it necessary as well?

Pretty sure he sees Strome and Barzal as comparable players, and would be fine leaving it up to the scouts. Obviously that's not the case with Crouse/Strome.
