Seriously, Schenn is having a better year than Kane and they are about the same age. What makes Kane the much better player? They have similar points per game right now, Schenn has less than half his penalty minutes in more games, but Kane has more hits per game than him.

Wpg needs a true 3rd line fwd and a top 4 LHD , which Kane could bring both back. I think they will be a better team once they move him.

Kane's not bringing them a good haul back. He's about to add another year of not living up to that contract he signed after his breakout season on the ice while continuing to mess up off the ice.

It comes down to whether they want to deal with his bs in hopes he improves his value for a later trade or sell low at a nice discounted price for the opposing team right now.

I doubt anyone is giving WPG that for Kane. Maybe one or the other, but his value has got to be close to an all-time low. I think he stays put unless there is a serious D-Jax situation in play.

Luke not needed, they need LHD that can play with Trouba.

I am sure Jets ask for Brayden and Coburn , I would counter with Coburn and Read.

Coburn and Schenn for Kane and a 1st all day everyday.

Kane would be having a better year than schenn if he was on a line with two of the best players in the league.

Schenn is never going to be the driving force behind a line. All he will ever be is a compliment to more talented players.

One of the flyers biggest struggles is even strength scoring outside of our top line. And one of the reasons why we struggle with this is because we have a hard time gaining entry into the ozone because we have few skaters that are fast enough and good enough stick handlers to gain entry and possess the puck. Kane excels in both departments , great speed and great hands.

Imagine couturier with Kane by his side, coots wouldnt have to worry about entering the zone and could just look for kane to do that while he hangs out in front of the net and dominate puck possession.

The problem with Kane is his contract. He's making $5.25M for the next three years after this one. If you factor in his play these last two years & all the off the ice incidents it hardly becomes any type of good value.

Is it worth having the headache of Kane? Plus, while Kane has put up a 30 goal season in 11-12, he hasn't put up those kinds of numbers since. And from what I can see this season, he takes a lot of boneheaded penalties.

Exactly.

Eh, speculation on your part. And while that is fine, it isn't fact. I happen to like Schenn's upside vs Kane's at this point in there careers. Schenn is on the up, while I think it seems pretty obvious Kane has leveled off. just my 2 cents though.

I'd do Read and Coburn, but thats about it. Jets would be stupid to say no IMO. Kane clearly wants out, and those are 2 valuable NHL assets for teams. Especialy because im pretty sure they dont need to worry about much cap. Plus we shed 4 mil in the deal.

Trading Coburn and getting no Dman back makes little sense IMO. Coburn isn't part of our defensive woes Imo.

Yeah...that's a deal I would do. I WOULD NOT trade Schenn for Kane. Kane has better upside, but doesn't do anything with it and is Schenn is way cheaper.

Plus...and I keep coming back to this...but why do deals to get better today when we have the anchor contracts here. PLAN for the future season of 2016/17. By then, we can have Vinny, Umberger and Grossmann all gone.

That should be our focus....trades that help us 1.5 years from now.

If i were Hextall....

Tank :

Coburn for 1st
Streit for 1st
Resign MDZ and Schultz.
Trade Vinny to Florida/Nashville for pick or rental.
Umberger somewhere for anything.
Read for 1st.
MacDonald for pick.

Sign veteran UFAs or High risk/high reward players for one season. Do NOT put youth too big role next year.

or try to get better somehow:

Coburn+Read for BUFF/Kane

ETC.

Coburn would probably garner a late 1st
Streit MIGHT get a late first, but his age might drop his value a tad
No one's going to take Vinny unless we're giving them assets to do so
Same with Umberger
Read would probably get a high 2nd at most
MacDonald: see vinny and umberger.

We have been speculating trading him for a 1st for a while now. That brings no dman back. plus he has 1 year left on a contract. Get value for him before we lose him for free or have to pay him 6 mil a year. That will be the asking price for his ufa status

For some reason, I'd rather try to draft Rantanen and see if he pans out better than Kane .

Yeah. I hear you.

Although, if we did trade for Kane, his production would go up in virtue of being on a better line. Kane is better than Schenn.

Streit's tied for 5th in the league in D scoring, if he's not getting a 1st plus I keep him.

Coburn could garner a first and needs to. He's been awful this year and 2nds rarely pan out. It would be like jettisoning him into space.

I would keep Streit around. A late round 1st rounder for a guy who is one of the better producers in the league and QBs a very successful PP? You need some vet presence for our 2 way D prospects. He doesn't play a game where he takes much wear and tear. He could be good for awhile yet. If the trading partner will probably wash out early in the playoffs -- maybe it would be worth it. This draft is deep-ish.

I fear Schultz may want too much and may have been a flash in the pain. I'm so burned out on trash contracts. Depends on the contract and how confident the Flyers are that this is the real Schultz.

I'd qualify MDZ because he's a RFA and doesn't have much power. The Flyers need some cheap contracts with serviceable people. Still, I wouldn't care if they didn't resign him. The game the other day was perfectly what is wrong with MDZ. He sniped an absolutely great goal under the cross bar, only to give up a goal against the next shift. Will experience improve his game?

Vinny needs to be moved, I agree. He should be taking out ads in the newspaper about how he's planning on retiring soon in the city of a team that shows interest.

Umberger will probably be bought out once it is reasonable. I doubt he returns much or teams have interest.

Read has been hurt. I would hang on to Read. He doesn't make that much and I doubt he returns a first rounder and 2nds are ... 2nds.

MacDonald -- no clue what to do with him. Flip him for pennies to a team that has some kind of space and has a significant injury to their defense before the trade deadline? Unlikely.

I doubt Coburn and Read gets you Buff / Kane. Not sure I would want either of them here, either.

I would love to have Buff here, but it would be way too much to acquire him.

Why would we ever Kane by himself?. His attitude and play has been sub-par all year. I don't think he's even worth considering in a trade unless we get the better side of it (including buff). An even trade its still a gamble, unless we get a damn good draft pick. Aren't we trying to get away from the Holmgren method of over paid players and to start getting young core players? Kane can be great and has the talent but I don't believe he's a fit here for our plan going forward. The scariest thought is seeing how our horrid coach Berube play him in his "gamplan".

*Note - I am very interested to see what moves or move will be made near the trade deadline. I feel about 80% sure you'll see a mid-vet flyers face gone... (read, coburn, grossman) most likely for pick

By including buff i meant i don't want kane or buff. Both are busts IMO.. I feel like buff will be a flyers rival for many years to come

Why do so many want Buff? He's not that good at defense. He doesn't fix any problems. He's just more of what we already have.

I agree.

If we had a legit #1, then maybe Buff would be nice. But I wouldnt give up what it would cost to get him without one

McKenize was just on NBCSN, he basically said that guys with term & money left on their contracts are going to be tough sell's as of now with the uncertainty of the cap for next year. The UFA's are drawing more interest.
