Nah, just means that Kulak likely made the team out of camp.
I'm not sure, it means 6 healthy defensemen and I think it's unlikely we go into the season with only 6 healthy defensemen. Or perhaps Smid or Brodie will be ready for opening night (to serve as the #7)

If our D was healthy.

Gio - Brodie/Hamilton
Brodie/Hamilton - Wideman
Russell - Smid/Kulak/Engelland
Engelland/Kulak.

Our defense has come a long way the last 2 seasons.

Kulak over Wilson was the right choice. Think Smid is pretty close and Brodie not too far away either.

So I guess Wilson was just kept around to be a warm body? Anyways, best of luck to him, he just doesn't have the wheels though.

Not surprised at the Wilson cut. And Im guessing that Smid is close and they will just run with 6 defensemen for now until he's up to speed.

I really hope Smid returns to full capacity, our blue line missed him imo

Wouldn't mind this at some point:

Giordano-Hamilton
Russell-Wideman
Kulak-Brodie
Engelland/Smid

I think you guys are jumping the gun a bit, in all likelihood Kulak will be sent to Stockton when Smid and Brodie are healthy

Yah Kulak is a solid call up/injury replacement at this point. But I'm not writing him into our top 4 anytime soon.

I'm not so sure. I think he has the ability to relegate one of Smid or Engelland to the bench. Depends on how he and they perform to start the season. All to be determined.

I mean, with Kulak, we could see something like when Brodie first made the team out of camp. He had a rough start to the year and was sent down pretty quickly.

Or else he could seize the opportunity and not look back, and force out one of the vets.

I'm aware Kulak will be sent down as soon as Brodie and Smid are back, barring further injuries, simply because Smid is untradable, Engelland isn't going anywhere and it's unlikely they'll move Russell or Wideman mid-season. But I still want to see Brodie Jr and Brodie together. If Brodie could make Engelland look like a below average top four defensemen, I don't think Kulak would look out of place in the slightest.

this is the same Kulak that went to the ECHL last year. He's had a great camp and taken a huge leap forward but suggesting he's going to supplant NHLers that are solidified within the league is really expecting too much

I'm not expecting it, I was just saying it's a possibility.

With Kulak making the team, and a Russell extension being rumoured, is Wideman out the door?

Considering Brodie likes to play the right side, Dougie being on the team now as a big RH dean... Wideman would be really overpaid for the bottom pairing and PP specialist.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Kulak's been great.
