With the way Zack Smith is playing. If a team comes up to the sens and offers a 1st rounder for him. Would you do it?

Hes on pace for 25 points and 17 goals.

Ceci looks much better of late, but Im still of the opinion that he needs a veteran (500+ NHL games played) left shot Dman to help bring him along. Sens shouldn't be looking for a Norris candidate, but a safe and smooth skating safety net guy - Im thinking of a guy like Kuba, he did wonders for Karlsson.

CBJ is in shambles and they have to lock up a few of their younger Dmen. Could Fedor Tyutin be had? He'll be 33 this summer and has two more years after this at $4.5M but he has a NTC. He's the type of guy I think BMurr should be going after.

Thoughts?

It would have to be salary in and salary out leafs wouldn't be eyeing a cap dump they would want a legit asset don't feel comfortable participating in this

Toronto would likely take Greening and/or Phillips if their contracts extend past tbis year, but like you said they would want something juicy.

Thanks for the feedback on the DSP for Chiasson proposal. Good luck.... Or bad luck depending on how you want the season to go.

Cowen + Greening for Phaneuf

We get rid of 2 guys that arent playing with a year left on their deals and we get a 2nd pairing dman long term.

I think its fair.

Phaneuf would be great if it weren't for his contract. He's making 7 million a year for the next 5 years and that could be the reason why we can't resign Karlsson.

Hmmm, interesting but he has 5 more years at a 7.0 cap hit. In salary, he is owed 33 millions for the last 5 years (6.6 per season)

Problem is our "bad contracts" (Cowen at 3.1 and Greening 2.65) have only 1 year left...

Phaneuf and a 7th for Cowen, Greening, Wikstrand and a 2nd

Methot-Karlsson
Phaneuf-Ceci
Wiercioch-Wideman
Borowiecki

Phaneuf could do better with less responsability. His contract lowers his value A good comparable would be Jay Bouwmeester, look at both returns he gave to the Panthers then the Flames.

Phaneuf would cost 6.375 to the Sens for the last 4 years (first year, the Sens would still save 0.2 in salary, i.e. Cowen + Greening 7.7 - Phaneuf 7.5)

WOULD YOU DO IT?

we need to build a strong team if we want karlsson to stick around, and phaneuf does that. but contract and what we would have to give up would be interesting

In a year or 2 Phaneufs salary is lower than cap hit would be much easier to trade and seems like a decent stop gap for chabot

Ive liked the idea of Phaneuf on the Senators for a while now. Fits a role perfectly on this team, doesn't need to be the big name on defense, he can slot in behind Karlsson.

Cowen and Greening gone for sure

phaneuf would be solid even though he plays RD he shoots left. He would I suspect be a lot better in a 2nd pairing role and might actually be good with karlsson if need be
