Sedin Sedin Kassian
Sven Bo Vrbata
Virtanen Bonino Burrows
Dorsett Richardson Hansen
Extra: Kennis, Gaunce
If top 6 get injure, call up Shinkaruk

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Corrado
Sbisa Clendening(Stanton)
extra: Either Clendening or Stanton + cheap FA

Lack 1A
Miller 1B
(If somehow you can mover Miller then move him)
Personally I want Sbisa out but that ain't gonna happen.
Let Matthias walk, trade Weber & Vey's RFA right for picks.
Force Bieksa and Higgins to waive and trade them for picks. (There are many ways to force them, healthy scratch or something. Worst scenario you put them on waivers)

PS:
Everytime I saw someone's projection includes Bieksa, makes me go “Huh?"

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Baertschi - Horvat - Vrbata
Higgins - Bonino - Burrows
Virtanen/Dorsett - Vey - Hansen

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Corrado/UFA (Mike Green I'm looking at you)
Stanton - Bieksa OR Sbisa - Corrado (This option depends on if we sign Green; hopefully no Sbieksa)

Lack
Miller

So, I went with a 2A and 2B approach to the second and third line. Horvat will be going up against better competition with Vrbata, Bonino gets more sheltered minutes and plays with 2 defensively responsible wingers.

On defence, the key is to trade one of Sbisa/Bieksa and using that cap space to sign Mike Green. We need a top-4 PP specialist. Our PP would be so much more dangerous and our transition game would receive a huge bump.

On goalie side, Miller and Lack split the game if they're not traded.

I know it's a projection but it's so unrealistic.
Sbisa and Dorset won't be move......unless some GM are insane.

Yep, that's why it's just me fantasizing about what I would rather prefer.

If I had to do a projection closer to reality:

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Baertschii Bonino Vrbata
Burrows Horvat Hansen
Higgins Vey Dorsett
Kenins

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Corrado
Sbisa Bieksa
Clendening

Miller
Markstrom

Out: Richardson, Matthias, Weber, Stanton, Lack, McMillan
In: Baertschii, Kenins, Corrado, Clendening

Also think one of Cannata or Eriksson is gone (meaning Canucks will lose two goaltender this offseason, so they may add another Re: O'Connor) and I think Jensen will be gone too.

Also, if management is adamant ala Horvat for Virtanen to stick around, one of Burrows, Higgins, Hansen, or Kassian are gone, and my money is on Kassian leaving. In that scenario:

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Baertschii Bonino Vrbata
Virtanen Horvat Hansen
Higgins Vey Dorsett

Was thinking that Virtanen would have to work from the 4th line up but Vey and Virtanen on the same line as Dorsett would be a defensive nightmare.

Looks fairly realistic to me.

Not what I want, but my guess is that Kassian is replaced with Higgins in that set-up. Vrbata and Burrows moved one line up with Higgins on the 3rd. Corrado is unfortunately replaced with Bieksa. Really don't understand why Bieksa would leave. He won't be picked up by a contender and unless he really wants to move somewhere (Raleigh or whatever) he isn't going to a bottom feeder somewhere. Hope I'm wrong though.

Good depth in that team. If Virtanen can become half the player Horvat became during his first season and Baertschi lives up to 80% of his early promise - then that forward group is rock solid. At the back Clendening can hopefully provide some offense. I like him. I think he could surprise us next year. He just needs that little bit of confidence.

I'd replace Richardsson with someone who is better at shutting down and a little feistier. Maybe Gregory Campbell or Jim Slater and have them in a specific shutdown role. Would try to trade Hansen, Higgins, or Burrows just to sign another centerman who can win draw. Sign Dan Paile to replace if necessary. I'd move Bonino to a wing for another center if they had another. Maybe sign Letestu or if Gaunce could someone develop well, play on that 3rd line and move Horvat up. 2 lines focused on scoring, 2 lines focus on shutting guys down. I love having center depth, signing someone like Sodenberg would be a dream but it's unlikely.

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Baertschi Bonino Vrbata
Higgins Horvat Hansen
Dorsett Campbell Burrows
Kenins, Guance as extras

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Corrado
Sbisa Bieksa

I don't think Virtanen or McCann can go to AHL. And that Yakupov trade is very unrealistic.

Yakupov > Miller + Bieksa + Jensen.

And Hansen is worth more than a 5th.

If Richie isn't signed, Gaunce replaces him.
Bones and Bo are more of a 2A/28 type centers here.
Gut feeling Jim trades Higgins for a 4th.

What I'd like to see next year is:

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Baertschi-Horvat-Vrbata
Shinkaruk-Bonino-Burrows
Higgins-Gaunce-Hansen

At the begining of the season put Horvat as your #2c if he is struggling move him down to #3c. We might not get 101 points like we did last season but it makes our lineup significantly younger. Especially our top 6.

Edler-Tanev
Hamhuis-Corrado
Stanton-Clendening

Lack
Markstrom

Sure we might suck and won't get 101 points. But, it shouldn't be about winning anyway, we need to develop the new core so let the kids play.

Why are people projecting that all of Baerts, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Clendining, and Corrado all make the team next year, alongside Kenins and Horvat... That's just ridiculous.

I think it will be between Baerts and Shinkaruk to compete for one top 6 spot, and I bet Kassian is in that same competition unless he gets Sedin time. And I bet Virtanen is in on this battle as well.

For defence, it comes down to Clendening OR Corrado, and Pedan probably also. Clendening has to clear waivers though, so this battle likely takes place throughout the season.

I think there will he a battle between Virtanen, McCann, and Cassels for a 9 game look. I think because of contract slot limitations, we need as many to slide as possible so we can likely fot one at yhe most on the roster. If McCann or Cassles makes the team out of camp, it's as a bottom 6 C. Gaunce making the team is dependant largely on this.

I dont think Richardson will be resigned because of the injury struggles.
Matthias will probably price himself too high.

And there is always Vey to get in everybody's way.

Higgins should be kept, but also kept out of the top 6 and kept off the PP.
Hansen, same sentiment.

looks kinda like this

Sedin - Sedin - (Burrows, Vrbata, Kassian)
(Virtanen, Baerts, Shinkaruk) - Bonino/Horvat - (Burrows, Vrbata, Kassian)
Higgins - Horvat/Bonino - (Burrows, Kassian, Hansen)
Kenins - (McCann, Cassels, Gaunce) - (Burrows, Kassian, Hansen)

Sbisa - Bieksa
Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - (Weber, Corrado, Clendening)
(Weber, Corrado, Clendening)

Who knows with the goalies...

This is barring trades or UFA signings.

I'm not just having a salad. I need Sbisa and Dorsett on my plate. add some Bruins flavour.

Sedin Sedin Kassian (15.75)
Baertschi Bonino Burrows (7.4)
Virtanen Horvat Hansen (5.9)
Kenins Kelly/Campbell Dorsett (6.65)
Vey (1)
(36.5)

Edler Tanev (9.45)
Hamhuis Weber (6.5)
Sbisa Corrado (4.5)
Stanton Clendening (1.8)
(22.3)

Miller 6
Markstrom 1.2
Luongo 900k
(8.1)

66.9 million roughly

Could be lower. unsure of a few rookie bonuses so just upped them by 750k each.

I don't think your team would win more than 10 games in a season.

What I would do:

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
_____ - _____ - Vrbata
Kenins - Horvat - Baertschi*
Virtanen - Richardson - Hansen
*Dorsett

Edler - _____
Hamhuis - Tanev
______ - Corrado
*Stanton - Clendening

Lack
Markstrom

If you want a "core shakeup" that would pretty much be it. Miller, Sbisa, Bieksa, Burrows, Higgins, Matthias, Weber, Vey, Bonino* gone.

If I could package Baertschi into a deal that can improve the team, I would consider that as well. Same goes for Bonino, otherwise he can stay. I would see how Markstrom handles the role of backup, if he fails I would look to acquire one. I would give him the opportunity though to prove himself for about ~30ish games into the season.

I would give WD another season as head coach. If he fails to adapt his bench management, in-game adjustments and lineup decisions -- I would then fire him the following off-season.

Not going to happen, however, that would be my approach if I were GM.

Now that we're three days away from pre-season games, we can play this game a bit more realistically.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Bae - Sutter - Vrbata
Higgins - Horvat - Hansen
(Kenins) Dorsett - Vey - Prust (Virtanen)

Edler - Weber
Hamhuis - Tanev
Bartkowski - Corrado

to put together a realistic opening night roster that would make sense to ben gardens and that i'd actually like to watch:

sedin sedin burrows
baertschi horvat vrbata (the RWs on the top two lines being interchangeable depending on who's hot and who's clicking)
prust sutter dorsett (you win this round, ben gardens)
virtanen vey shink/jensen (in extremely sheltered minutes, i'd entertain a kid line)

sure you want kenins in there, but one of dorsett or prust will get hurt and open up a spot soon enough.

higgins and hansen and some early-to-mid round picks traded somewhere for more shuffling of the d corps deck chairs/adding a depth d-man with a bad contract or waiver-ineligible young guy who hasn't proven himself as a legit NHLer yet who's worse than a guy we could pick up off waivers or the UFA pile for free.
