Hypothetically, if they were to make another move regarding the defense, hopefully it's for a good, top-4 shot-suppressing RD.

Otherwise, upgrading Hayes' RW is priority if they can't keep MSL or Buch isn't ready for the NHL yet

I need someone to explain to me exactly how Hayes & Yandle affect the Salary Cap for next season. Thanks to anyne who'll explain that to me.

Just a couple of random things to help kick off the new (continued) thread:

No talk about trading Klein, lol. Best value we have in a contract. This guy could easily wear an "A" on his shirt, IMO.

Step & Miller are the only 2 guys w/o a contract for next season that are 100% safe, in my mind. They will absolutely be re-signed. What do you think? 5.5 mil Cap hit for Step on a 5 year deal if we can get lucky? 2 to 2.5 mil Cap Hit for Miller on a 2 year deal? More? Any thoughts?

Everyone else is up in the air. That includes MSL, Hags, Shep, Hunny, & Fast.
Of these 5, Fast is the most likely to return, IMO. He will not command a premium & can still improve a bit with age. We all know the deal with MSL. He may get a take it or leave it 1 to 2 mil offer. Hags would probably require 3mil cap hit and with things being tight, I have no idea if we keep him. Shep will go elsewhere.

Maybe someone could clear this up but Hagelin is an RFA this summer and I'm assuming he's arbitration eligible right? If thats the case we can just tender him, play hardball and if it comes down to it trade him; what I'm getting at is were not going to loose him for nothing which would hurt. I hope he's back he's an integral part of our middle 6 and PK and his speed is much needed in this system.

Also I'd love to trade Talbot for the Pens first, assuming we knock them out in the first and that pick is a 15/16 overall. Love Talbot and what he's done for this team but his value is at its peak and he deserves a shot at being a starter.

This season gives Hags 4 completed years in the NHL....so he should be arbitration eligible.

I'd also like to trade Talbot after this years performance. His value is at peak right now.

If you could get a mid 1st rounder for Talbot I'd do it. That said, not sure I see us getting that kind of return for him. And if that's the case, I'd hold onto him for next year. Be nice to know we have a top backup (at a very affordable price) should Hank miss more time.

I don't see why not. The stretch he played this year is better than Lundy's career numbers. Yes, small sample....but he was insane and we all know what a goaltender can do for a team. Someone may consider it.

I still say trade Talbot and Hags as a package to another team for someone young, cheap, and with a high ceiling. We desperately need the cap space, and if we can get younger and fresher, it would help us greatly.

Dat $1.45 million Talbot extension tho...

Someone like Edmonton's gotta be salivating all over it. You can bet your tushie Talbot will get a nice pay extension when he gets traded. Dude has earned his bread.

I believe (unless it changed in the new cba) if the player or team elects for arb the player cannot be traded before arb or 1 year after arb it determined(if arb actually happens)

For all NY Rangers goaltenders go here:

http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/NYR/goalies.html

Order it by GAA and then by SV %.

Look where Talbot is after 57 games as a NY Ranger Goaltender.

Jamie Ram - why aren't more people talking about this guy? Basically a carbon copy of Chris Holt. MacKenzie Skapski should start in the playoffs. That Eddie Giacomin guy was overrated anyway.

Seriously though - I think when the Rangers signed Talbot to a two year extension, they were planning on trading him before it was over. They hoped his value would go up. 1.45million - kind of pricey if the guy is just going to be your back-up.

impressive numbers no doubt...but i think his 33 wins which puts him 21st in franchise history right behind guys that have played almost twice as many games is the most impressive stats. gaa and sv% at those levels become harder and harder to maintain over time and become more impressive over time compared to the current 'small' sample size

I want to make sure people understand why I linked to the stats. It's not because I think he is God and we should start him in the playoffs and keep him forever & ever, lol.

I'm attempting to show how good he has been as a backup and to emphasize his performance this year when Lundy hurt his neck.

I want to trade him and get a high pick in return. I think he can fetch a first round pick. Linking to the stats show how high his trade value might be at this moment. His performance is fresh in the minds of all, and his numbers represent more than the combined 11 shots faced of Holt & Ram....however legendary they may be. :p:

The Vancouver Canucks traded Schneider’s remaining contract a year before unrestricted free agency to the New Jersey Devils on June 30th, 2013 for the 1st Round (9th overall) pick of the ’13 draft.

Not a far stretch to think we can get a pick late in the first round for Talbot, or if we are lucky a mid 1st round pick. Definitely a second round at worst.

Absolutely. I have no idea why everyone here has been so quick to throw him into trade proposals over he last few years.

Not so much the past few years, but this year it makes a ton of sense. The guy is assumingly going to make something like $3 million at least AAV, maybe even close to $4 million with the way contracts have been going lately. He's RFA status so once a team has his rights, he's theirs to work out a deal with, and at the same time they aren't taking on a cap hit so they can work out a deal on their own that fits their budget. He also has tools other teams need. Why resign a guy like Hagelin when you can sign a guy with a much higher ceiling for less than Hagelin was making this year who's also younger? The fact is our biggest issue is the cap, not that we can't find pieces. In reality, Hagelin is much more replaceable than you guys think.

How is he replaceable? He's one of the fastest guys in the NHL, fantastic defensively, and has incomparable work ethic; Please show me all these other NHL players who can say the same. He's 26 and you want to go for someone younger? Come on.

He embodies this team's identity...completely.

Agreed.

My prediction? Hags resigns here long term at a reasonable price for both he and the team. He wants to stay here, and is good friends with Brass and Zucc.

Dom Moore got 27 points this year centering Tanner effing Glass and a a revolving door set of Fast, Stempniak, and Sheppard. Haeglin scored 8 more points with Kevin Hayes as his center and with far more ice time. Do you honestly think Hags would be getting as many points if he were on a line with Glass and Moore? Hags is not worth the $3 million+ he's asking for, that's why he's replaceable.

I'm not saying he isn't valuable to the team, but his value isn't worth $3 million+ You're mistaking what i'm saying.

Great, now people will say he is better than John Ross Roach, Eddie and Richter.

Lol, I doubt it. :)

In any case, I just made a post on the SJ Sharks board. Just testing the waters on how teams may value a guy like Talbot. I don't know if they are planning on re-signing Antti Niemi, but it looks like his contract at $4 mil/yr has just expired. He doesn't seem special; and Talbot is younger & cheaper. And San Jose is a bubble playoff team that could use a good Goalie, while using the saved Cap Space to bring another experienced D-Man on board. (Would be nice to trade them Talbot & Boyle in a package, if Boyle would wave the NM clause).

Edit: Just noticed San Jose also has a horrible PK%. How about a Hags (great on PK) & Talbot package?

There's a lot more to the game than points. Hayes had all of 45 points, so it's not like Hagelin was far behind him at 35. Brassard scored 9 less than Nash while playing on the same line most of the year. Zucc is going to make 4.5 mil next year and he scored 49 points, only 14 more than Hagelin.

Hagelin's cap hit was 2.25 mil this year. An extra 750k for him is absolutely worth it.
