To me, Fazleev appears to be the safest bet to make the NHL.
Does it make him the best remaining prospect? I don't know.

Going with marti. I think he is going to have a NHL future with his skating and positioning.

At this point it is really a crap shoot. I don't expect any of these guys to be anything more than fringe NHLers (with the exception of Tomek and Sandstrom who are their own crapshoots in and of themselves who I think can be but since they are goalies don't think they WILL be).

I went with Vasilev because he seems to be the one closest to getting any real consideration for NHL playing time. But Leier, Goulbourn, Alt, Fazleev, and Straka could have easily been the pick.

Friedman. Safely projects to be a bottom pairing all-around defensemen but has the ceiling of a second pairing all-around defensemen. The fact that he was third in NCAAC scoring for defensemen behind only Hanifin and Werenski puts him in good company.

Looks like Friedman will be 12, Sandstrom will be 13, then it will get wild.

Saying he safely projects as a 3rd pair seems overly optimistic to me. He certainly has a chance, but safe?

I'm good with either voting Freidman or Sandstrom here. Although, really none of us have ever seen either play.

Freidman seems to have a solid skill set to maybe make it someday. Sandstrom has a nice pedigree and starting goalie upside. But as with all goalies his age, who knows where he'll end up?

I'll vote Sandstrom just because of upside.

Also, I should have mentioned Vorobyov. He was also in consideration based entirely on the interview Hearty gave.

He's another guy most of us have never seen, but clearly the Flyers were super high on as a bit of a sleeper. I believe Hearty said they saw little difference between him and Eriksson Ek (a 1st rounder).

Yeah. I wonder if they got any indication he wants to come over.

does anyone happen to have the prospect rankings from the past few years? I'd love to see how they improved the quality and depth in such a short time.

thanks...interesting that outside of the top few high drafts picks nearly everyone else fell off the map...none of the late guys moved up the ranks and probably half are out of the organization.

That's pretty much to be expected. We're all guessing for the most part once the first rounders and nearly NHL-ready prospects are off the board. 2013-14's Marcel Noebels, Mark Alt, and Oliver Lauridsen is the same as this year's Taylor Leier, Mark Friedman, and Petr Straka.

It would be great if Vorobyov was invited to play for Russia in the exhibition games starting August 3rd in Calgary vs Canada and the Czech's, so we could check him out on the stream Hockey Canada provides. To my knowledge they haven't released a roster yet for those games. I'd assume he has a good chance to be on the roster, along with Provorov and Fazleev.

I guess my point is that you'd like to and expect for a guy like Fazleez to be 15th this year and 10th next year and top 4 the following year as opposed to 15th and then off the list the following year.

Based on the leagues need for right-handed defensemen and his all-around game, I think it's a pretty safe bet he makes it as a bottom pairing defensemen somewhere.

Just not realistic for all of the later round picks to develop like that, especially when every spring you're adding another 1st and 2nd rounder to the mix. Some will have an upwards trajectory like Gostisbehere. Some will stagnate. Some will dissapear.

Yeah you'd like that but these guys (for the most part) have miniscule chance of becoming NHL regulars, so it would be pretty rare to see regular progression like that. There are guys every year that are signed either as college UFAs, Euro UFAs, or drafted in the later rounds that people get hyped on about their shot to make it in the NHL. They rarely live up to that hype, and if they do it is often with another organization, even ones that are drafted in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.
