2014 Draft picks
  • 2nd round NYR
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 4th round NYR
  • 5th round Florida (for Casey Wellman)
  • 6th round NYR
We lost our 1st rounder in 2014 in the Marty St Louis trade with Tampa Bay
We lost our 2014 5th rounder to San José in the Ryan Clowe trade in 2013 with San Jose as the predetermined conditions were met
The Rangers acquired Columbus’ 2014 6th round pick along with Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and John Moore from Colmbus in exchange for Marian Gaborik, Blake Parlett and Steve Delisle.
The Rangers then traded Columbus’ 2014 6th round pick along with Benn Ferriero to Minnesota in exchange for Justin Falk.
We lost our 7th rounder in 2014 (conditional) to The LA Kings in the Danny Carcillo trade. Condition being that if Carcillo spends the rest of the season on the Rangers’ roster, Los Angeles gets the pick

Draft 2015
We lost our 2015 1st rounder in the Marty St Louis trade with Tampa Bay
We lost our 2015 5th rounder in the trade with Vancouver that brought us Rafael Diaz

Conditional picks 2015 - We will receive a second-round pick in 2015 if Ryan Callahan is re-signed by Tampa Bay for the 2014–15 NHL season. But we will then also loose our 7th round pick.

One of the odd things about going to the finals is that now the season is over, it's only 2 weeks until free agency.

I'd like us to jettison Richards and bring back everyone else. But I expect Sather to go nuts trying to build a SC roster for the next 2-3 seasons.

Fitzy's idea of Heatley on a cheap 1-2 year deal definitely intrigues me. Although you want to talk about a player that is not suited for a speed game, it is 2014 Heater. Still got that shot though.

Similarly I like the Nikitin idea from Tawnos if Staal is moved. Nikitin or Matt Greene would be decent cheapish adds for LD if Staal is moved and Stralman retained.

The thought of Dany Heatley did cross my mind the other day. His legs are shot though. Skating is horrible. No go for our team's game plan.

I was reading about the Rangers signing of Ryan Haggerty, and apparently one of the main reasons he signed with us was that we were willing to play him in the NHL next year. I could see him slotting in on the wing of the the third line. He's a big kid who can skate, and he loves to shoot the puck. Brass and Zucc definitely can help feed him the puck if he's slotted there.

Can he actually skate? (It seems like all the highlights I've seen are of set plays or cycles in the offensive zone.) If so, with that shot (right handed no less), he could be a very intriguing option.

8 years for Stralsy, 4m AAV! Front loaded!!!

You don't give a guy like that a 8 year deal .

No one wanted him when we got him , he was able to solidfy his game here. This is a situation where a player should take a little less to resign with his former team

I have a fear that Slats will sign Hemsky.

I hate not having 2 first rounders, but that's the price you pay for MSL (took me a while to like the trade).

I honestly wouldn't mind Spezza via trade (always really liked him), but the price is probably way too high.

According to Norwegian media Zuccarello's agents are talking about 22M over five years. That would be 4.4 per, I guess that's what we expect.

That's perfectly reasonable in my opinion. He's entering his prime years.

Not that he'd be my target, but Michalek does fit this team's narrative of speedy left wingers. Whether that makes him a perfect fit, or redundant, is a good question.

Imagine

Kreider
Hagelin
Michalek
Chimera

down the left hand side.

Moore could definitely be traded with Conner Allen taking his spot. Staal might not be the premiere defender that Colorado would like in return for ROR but maybe coupled with Moore could get the ball rolling?

Staal + Moore + Miller for ROR + Elliot

Hagelin Stepan MSL. (10.95 million)
Kreider ROR Nash (17.3 million)
Haggerty Brassard Zucarrello (9.325 million)
Boyle Moore Fast (5.2 million)
Dorsett (1.63 million)

McDonagh Girardi (10.2 million)
Elliot Stralman (6 million)
Allen Klein (4.675 million)
Diaz (1.1 million)

Goalies (9.1 million)

Anddddd that comes out to way too high, dang

I'd prefer an even 4 mill a year for Zooks. I'd also prefer a 4 year deal instead of a 5 year deal but I would not want to fight too hard in negotiations. He was the best bargain in the NHL this season at 1.15 mill.

We don't have the room for Hemsky. He turned down 3yrs/~$10M from Ottawa already. So unless he's bailing on the Sens just so he can take less money with the Rangers, I think we're safe.

I've always been a big fan of Michalek, but I'd rather have Pouliot at $2.3M ish than Michalek at $3.75M ish.

I'm not interested in paying Pouliot that kind of money. If he wants $2 million+ he can leave or wait for us to settle everything else first.

THis is a good point. We don't have many right handed shots, and the LW depth is a bit short...

Possible he replaces Poo? Not really sure

Those are preliminary contract discussions. I like this. They were asking for 4.5 mill/4-5 years after the olympics. Lowered their demands by 100k now. By the end of negotiations, they will likely be down to about 4.2 or 4.1, right around where I think Zucc will sign for. Something like 20.5-21 for 5 years - they'll probably give him a limited no trade clause for taking a lower cap hit. Not that it matters, I think Zucc will be one of those players that has a long and successful career in NY and frequently visits the MSG booth reminiscing and offering input about future teams.

That's his agents so I imagine the final price will be a lil less

Slats will start his negotiations at 3.5, and they'll steady out at 3.9M most likely...

I think term is more important for Zucc. He has been getting 1 year deals, and I think he wants the security of staying with a team that he likes, and a team that likes him. NYR fits him, and he wants to stick. a 4-6 year deal is what he needs, and deserves

Trade proposal: Staal for Skinner

Anyone think that either the Rangers or Hurricanes would be interested in a Marc Staal for Jeff Skinner deal?

I have a feeling the Canes would be interested in uniting all the Staal brothers. Certainly couldn't hurt their marketing down there.

The risk for the Rangers is taking on Skinner's cap hit, which I believe is over $5.5mm for the next four years or so. The guy's offensive upside is high. The Rangers still need some scoring help. He is a tremendous skater, so would fit very well in the AV system. The downside risk is his injury history. Not the biggest or strongest guy and I believe he has had concussion issues. That's dangerous with his contract.

It would hurt to lose Staal, but he may leave as an FA anyway and you have to believe he is very interested in Carolina as a destination. Could only do this if Stralman or another FA D is signed.

As for the Canes, they would probably want to be able to sign Staal to an extension if they make this trade. But I could see them wanting to get out from under Skinner's deal while solidifying their D, not to mentioned uniting the Staal family.
