Trying to think of what i'd give up in a Kesler deal now that includes Bennett.

Bennett + lesser D-prospect(not Despres or DP/Maata) + a pick would probably be it.

Something is telling me that Shero has moved on though and Kesler either goes no where or to Anaheim, Detroit or Columbus.

Buffalo still have Moulson, Stewart and Halak no? Poor them for getting pushed to the side by all the Kesler and even Vanek talk. Should be a flurry for them tomorrow.

I'd absolutly love Stewart/Hemsky for our TD, then improve our bottom 6 a little. We could also keep Pouliot, while trade Letang for ROR in the off season.

Just curious to the thought of posters on the proposed package of Sutter, dumolin/despres, 1st vs the package (at the time) Shero gave for Hossa. More, less, equal?

Its about the same IMO. Sutter actually reminds me of Amy without the hits.

If the Pens do move a high profile unproven asset (Pouliot, Despres, 1st, whatever), I'd most in favor of moving Pouliot. I'm probably a bit blinded by my dislike of d-man prospects noted more for their offensive game, but of all the team's top prospects, I think he's most likely to disappoint. From just watching exhibitions, Subway Series, etc, there are aspects about his defensive game I just don't like and can see him needing to matriculate in the AHL for a while before becoming a good enough player defensively to be a regular NHL'er. I also think his lack of strength and defensive game will top him out as a #4-ish type guy, a player that's more a luxury than a need.

Like I said though, for the longest time, I've disliked offensive d-man prospects. I'll take a guy that's good in his own end and not a total disaster transitioning the puck every time. I'm just a leave the dynamic playmaking to the forwards type of guy.

All that said, I hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be a good player but I can't shake my gut feeling on him.

I just don't want to give up Bennett + DP in a deal for a player thats not even a natural winger. Kesler is a great player but he's also close to the wrong side of 30.

Bennett/DP/Despres. Vancouver can have 1 of those in any deal for Kesler imo.

I think you're going to have to give up 2 of the 3, and I think mostly because Bennett is getting a little overrated around here lately. I like him but he hasn't proven he won't get banged up at this level and he's a good prospect but not an elite one.

Did you miss when he got hated? That happened, it went from overrating to underrating, I'm not sure what he is now.

The issue is that the forward depth is so bad that trading forwards isn't good, trading the really promising winger is brutal. There's also no guarantee that Shero drafts forwards any time this decade. He at least has NHL experience and isn't in the doghouse.
