Not searching for excuses, but Carleton had to travel to McGill on less than 24 hours rest to play a team with 2.5 days' rest that was waiting for them. What gives? Is OUA scheduling always this random?

Some games get moved sometimes that accommodate teams before the season starts and the final schedule is approved. Like RMC was SUPPOSED to play Carleton in a home and home over a weekend but we had to move our home game (which was the 2nd game) to our home opener cause we had a schedule conflict. Plus RMC has to play Laurentian in the middle of the week in January cause they couldn't accomdate us in the first half

Keep in mind, too, that Ottawa's withdrawal affected the schedule, and has hurt McGill more than anybody because McGill is Ottawa's "schedule partner." Almost every weekend McGill plays a rested team - because that team was supposed to have played Ottawa.

Nobody has a worse schedule than McGill, so it's a testament to Kelly Nobes and the team that they're on top of the East.

As one example of the trouble it caused, in one weekend McGill had to bus to Windsor, play there on Friday at 1:00, then bus back to Toronto Friday afternoon, fly from TO to Thunder Bay, and play Lakehead on Saturday night. They went 2-0 on that trip.

Fair enough. They Sports Info Director was telling me about that - seems like this past weekend was the only one on their whole schedule where they had the advantage rest-wise.

Kudos to them, very solid defensive core. OUA East playoffs are going to be vicious this year! :handclap:

Strong finish to the first half for Western, who beat Laurier and Windsor on the road by identical 4-3 scores on back-to-back nights.

They had a major roster turnover after last year, losing Daniel Erlich, Zach Harnden and Matt Clarke (their top 3 point getters last year), plus Josh Unice in net. They started slowly but have gone 8-0-1 over their past 9, including wins over McGill, UQTR and Windsor. Their last 6 games were on the road, where they went 5-0-1. They are not blowing anyone out of the rink, but they are winning games and are now just 2 points behind Windsor for first in the west division.

Their goalie Greg Dobbs might have the best stats in the OUA.

Highlights of the Western/Laurier game. Biggest turning point occurred when Laurier was down a man and goalie Chris Festarini came out to play the puck and shot it directly over the glass for a delay of game penalty. Kyle Decoste scored on the 5 on 3 for the winner.

Laurier has now lost 4 consecutive games by a score of 4-3, getting only one point in that stretch. Laurier received some help in getting one of their goaltenders back (Chris Festarini), but even he has struggled with consistency. He had a solid game against Western, but was pulled after stopping only 15 of 18 through 2 periods against Brock. After seeing Laurier the past few years typically get dominated territorially, and outshot, it is great to see their top 6 forwards really produce on a nightly basis and compete with most teams. In the new year, they will need a much better record to avoid missing the playoffs in consecutive seasons. The biggest missing piece so far has been goaltending, and general defensive play, which with greater consistency, could lead to them winning more consistently.

Western was different than in prior years. They have always been a team with lots of offence. An article in the London paper about the Mustangs had quotes from Clark Singer indicating that this year the team would role 4 lines, with more of an emphasis on defensive coverage and commitment. In this manner, they remind me a lot of Windsor - Nothing spectacular, but hard working, and will win lots of 1-2 goal games. The problem is the OUA teams without the big guns have typically struggled at nationals. The current team is definitely different from the ones with Turkiewicz, Baker, Snow, Peters, Harnden etc. up front (like the 09 team which put up 7 against SMU), but doing well in the win/loss column.

I think that's a very fair assessment. Generally, they are getting lots of shots on net but don't seem to have players with the finish around the net like they've had in the past. Two recent examples: in their OT loss to Lakehead last weekend they outshot the 'Wolves 53-33, and a few weeks ago at a game I was at, they dominated Laurentian and outshot them 37-19 but needed overtime to beat them.

Waterloo's Mike Morrison might crack this argument if he continues on his current roll. Since being pulled in a 6-0 loss to Nipissing, Morrison is 5-1 with a 2.10 GAA and .945 sv% (with wins over three nationally-ranked teams).

He's a guy with lots of pedigree (5-yr OHL vet, participated in NHL camps), so if he puts it all together, he should be among the OUA's best.

This may be the article you are referencing: http://www.lfpress.com/2014/11/19/mustangs-draw-up-new-plan

Part of this, I think, is coaching strategy, but part of it is also circumtance. No question they are playing a more defensive style than they have in the past, but you play with what you have - and what they don't have this year - Steve Reese and Stefan Salituro (sort of) aside - are snipers. So a grinding, defensive approach makes lots of sense.

Great to see five-year Ravens alum Shane Bakker sign a PTO yesterday with Hamilton in the AHL. Described as a heart-and-soul guy by some of the CU coaches, he was Wheeling's captain this season in just his second pro season.

While his shot at the NHL is obviously quite small, good to see him getting a look at a higher level.

Just curious if their is any news regarding the Gees Gees program for next season?

Does anybody have any info.......

There hasn't been any. Considering quite a few of their players have transferred elsewhere, trying to put a team on the ice when starting at this date would be extremely difficult.

Can't see the program restarting for 15-16.

Highlight package I put together from today's game.

Ravens beat York, far from convincingly, today in a post-break tuneup.

Team travels to Kingston on Tuesday night for a date with the Queen's Gaels.

Ravens beat Queen's 2-1 last night in Kingston. Thought that, aside from the play of goaltender Kevin Bailie, Queen's really didn't offer much. Final shot tally was 40-25 CU, and the Ravens dominated long stretches of the game.

Pat Killeen and Bailie really settled into a goalie duel on the night, and Bailie's thirty-eight saves were the only reason the game was close.

Queen's look as though they've regressed from last time I saw them in early November.

A cool feature story on Mary Ann Vaughan, a Waterloo Economics professor that has become a superfan for the Warriors men's hockey team.

She's also created her own Academic Financial Award (scholarship), and amended her will to fund the award in perpetuity.

Rare to see this kind of dedication to an OUA team, let alone from a faculty member. Read the full feature here:

Great article. Waterloo were classy when they came up here, Brian Bourque was easily the best interview I've had in the league thus far.
