Man i don't even know what to say,

It hurt watching that.
I didn't think subban should have got the start from the begining but this was obviously not his fault, he really needed to make a couple saves though the last one i thought he should've had. This team had bad coaching and scouting, ryan murphy got all the ice time in the world yet he doesn't have a single point, team canada was terrible in every aspect of the game.
This tournament is tough to win if you have one bad night its all over. But teams change greatly from year to year this loss doesn't mean Canada is trending downward.

Canada is in danger of not winning a medal which would end a 14 year streak, they will play either sweden or russia. As much as bronze sucks its better then no medal at all
This team canada cannot be the one to end the medal streak they must win

  :(

I agree that the other countries are catching up to Canada but this was one of the best teams ever assembled and to go out and perform like that? ****ing embarrassing. They underestimated the Americans and payed for it and not even the loads of talent they had could get them out of that mess.

I don't fault him for the loss tonight and he was solid for us in his previous 2 games.

I'd have pulled him after the third goal (also not his fault but it was clear he was rattled) but even then Gibson's performance made it all academic. Gibson's like Quick in that you'd better only let in 2 goals because there is no way you're beating him for more than 3.

We really should poach USA Hockey's goalie coach.

I don't know why people are putting so much emphasis on this being a "choke". Other than winning the Group in the round-robin stage, there was really nothing that made Canada the #1 contender in this tournament for me.

Outside of RNH there was no other sure-fire briliant offensive prospect to help carry the load. Even before the tournament, I had Canada as 3rd behind Russia/USA as the top teams in this tournament.

A good team got beat by a great team today - not as much a choke as it is just the way things are.

Guys like Huberdeau and Hamilton should hang their heads after the performances that they have put in this tournament.

He is no where near the talent Gibson is - I feel Gibson out-played him even in the round-robin game where Canada won - as good as Subban was.

Subban was not the problem nor the solution tonight and while Gibson seems to be the more polished of the two they are still very early in their careers so that could change.

I thought Strome had three or four really good scoring chances. He didnt get much ice time. Spott overplayed the Hopkins line. Not sure if he was allowed to take a time out after that icing, but if he was he certainly should have. Probably had delusions of using it late in the third to draw up a play for the tying goal with the goalie out or some nonsense.

Ya not sure why that line was out there so long, RNH could have changed but got caught on and ended up taking a penalty. Strome did have a few chances but it got frustrating seeing him and everyone else ring it off the glass or get stoned.

IMO it wouldn't have made a difference the skaters never turned it up and besides RNH who was working hard in all 3 zones we didn't have much going for us.

Spot: "You wonder if you should have gone in there before the game and been more vocal.."
Hmm... really? Why is that not surprising? Probably too busy telling his boy Ryan Murphy how he's going to spoon feed him ice-time.

I dont even understand how the team was picked. Our defence is as small if not smaller than the Oilers defence core. Same with our forwards. We had a slower team than the US.

Its also stupidly frustrasting because we didn't seem to have any real system play at all. Whole team is PP specialists and somehow our PP sucks.

Huberdeau, Schiefele, Ritchie, McNiel, Lipon and Danault all just seemed lost all tournament long. We had Murphy eating up minutes all tournament long despite Reilly just looking better all around.

We lacked physicality, and we lacked a strong forcheck. We seemed to just make poor choices with the puck all tournament long. I have to think that our coaching staff failed.

I just flat out embarrassed. Third was better, but just... we needed to work harder. Not playing 60 minutes not really acceptable.

You're exaggerating. "All tournament long"? No. They played perfect against Russia but the whole team choked in the game that mattered the most.

Yeah, exaggerating as bit I suppose. I dunno, I just frustrated.

I do think that the whole Huberdeau Strome Ritchie line was pretty mediocre in the Russia game though.

I suppose it neither here nor there, but I also think that the speed and checking prowess of WHL guys like Sissons, Lazar, and Shinkaruk would have been put to use well, but that probably just the western Bias in me.

I wanted to see Shinkaruk get the call after Hudon got injured. The only other selection I had a problem with was Murphy. He was bad at camp and pretty much the whole tourney but Spott has some sort of love affair with him. Also, Hamilton was probably the single biggest disappointment for Canada.

These guys suffer the same fate as the past few years. The pressure really gets to them.

They react slow and make poor decisions. This makes the Americans appear faster.
They get scared out of hitting early in the tournament and that's really what was needed to slow the American momentum and build their own.

Canada got overrun early again.

Its partly a matchup problem. USA knows how to play us hard and often enough have our number. I said as much in the round robin game where the US had their way with us most of the game and we somehow eked out a W despite being badly outplayed in the final two periods. People here said I was wrong, overreacting, that Canada should have won the game in the first etc. WEll, the USA stomped us for 4 consecutive periods and this is the result you get, inevitably losing the big game.

I say you don't win many games where you lose most of the periods. We had trouble matching intensity and game plan with the US and wavered and strayed. We were hot and cold in this tourney precisely like last year, or the year before, or the year before..

US played a smart game again, played much better as a team than we did, and predictably got the win against a collection of individuals that never bonded and rarely looked like a team.

A sad day and just another notch in a very sad hockey season. Hopefully this isn't forboding of what 2013 brings.

Theres been no hockey under the Christmas tree folks.

Pretty easy why we lost again, we need a save. You never win a big game if goaltending is average.
Go back to last year, does sweden win with Canada's goalie? Or does Canada win with Swedens goalie?
You can complain about defense all you want but a goalie is your last line of defense. Your never going to hold a opposing team to 0 shots.
We outshoot them once again, and had plenty of scoring chances, yet their goaltender out played ours by plenty

That was the game folks

I'm usually the first guy to jump on a goalie for a horrible performance, but that wasn't even close to the cause today.

The first period was maybe the worst period I have ever seen Canada play at the juniors. Puck focused, brain dead defensive play, terrible puck management, incoherent breakout schemes, and the inability to complete a pass were all apparent in spades in the first, and that set the tone for the game.

The team was just flat out unprepared.

You could see that one team was well coached, well prepared, and all bought in fully to a very strong system. Canada? Based on this game I'm not completely sure they were even playing a system.

It's time for Hockey Canada to audit how we choose our team, head scout, and coaching staff, because we've been following the same damn script for three years now, and it's embarrassing.

I agree they played not great in the first but we didn't just lose by 1 or 2 so that's on goaltending

Oh wow, that's an arse kicking. I thought Canada would get Russia in the gold, looks like maybe the bronze now which I'd have zero confidence in us winning.

How can you put this on goaltending when the whole team was absolutely terrible?

Are you suggesting that every time a hockey team loses by more than one or two it's because of goaltending? That's absolutely absurd.

Not trying to be a dick but did you even watch the game? Canada played like **** for 90% of the time. They wouldn't have won even if Subban played out of his mind. I cannot even comprehend how this team was so unprepared.

I still got a dog in this fight.... go Russia!! lol

Seriously though, it's the World Juniors, who gives a ****. I only have two thoughts on it really, that Steve Spott is a moron who has an IQ of around 80, and it's sad RNH couldn't will his way in such a big game.

Otherwise, no biggy.

Good to see McCabe putting up 4 points. I still wish we managed to get him in his draft year. I dont remember a whole lot of other people boosting him.

how quickly things change...after the Russia game, everyone was saying that Canada "Jenner is the difference, what a beast! Canada is the team to beat"

oops....crash and burn

possibly the most disappointing WJC in recent memory because they had all the best U20 players available...no excuse indeed
