Mitchell isn't a good penalty killer, he isn't good defensively, and he isn't very physical . He won't be providing much offense on the 4th line with McLeod/Bordeleau so I'd much rather have someone who can help the team in other ways.

I don't know if Malone is good defensively or good on the penalty kill but I think his style of play would be better for the fourth line.

Brad Malone is much better than John Mitchell. He is more physical, better defensively, he has a much higher hockey IQ and he works harder. The only thing Mitchell has on Malone is his shot and even then Brad Malone also has a really good shot, it is very underrated.

Agree,

Just seems Mitchell would have a better chance (especially on a contract year) going somewhere where he's not buried behind 9-10 better forwards, and could likely slot at 3C/LW.

I like him, and root for him, but seems a waste to stick him on a line where he'll likely only see max 7-9 minutes a game. If he does not produce any value he had coming off his #s last year will be gone by the deadline.
