I think Brunner is a little high. I'm thinking more around 2.75 maybe. Clarkson is def low and imo isn't needed. Horton is better even tho he hasnt been the same after his concussion. Might as well buy out Sammy and Tootoo and try to keep Filpulla.

Tootoo can probably be traded. Sammy and Bert can be bought out. Bring back Miller for the same deal Abdelkader has. Keep Brunner and Filppula. Re-sign the RFAs, naturally.

Buyout Sammy. Overpay for Horton, lock him up for his prime years. Regardless of what some posters here think the east is more physical than we are used too. I think this lineup can compete quite well while letting the youngsters grow.

If we're going to give Miller 1.8 to keep him, I'd rather just put Andersson there or something. Free up another million, because signing Clow/Filp for 4.5 each and Brunner for 2.5 sounds like a bit of a stretch. Like best case scenario by a mile kind of stretch. The rest of it looks good.

I might even try switching CC and Q once in a while. I thought CC did a decent job some games of stabilizing Kindl. If he could do the same for Smith, that would be great. And someone mentioned it, but a lot of times Smith gets into trouble because Q puts him there. Q either dumps it along the boards or passes it to Smith when he shouldn't. Smith then doesn't have enough time to make the right play with it and just panics it away. CC didn't seem to do that to Kindl.

Sign both Horton and Stephen Weiss, the former dynamic duo from Florida. :)

Dump Sammy, Tootoo and Cola in whatever ways possible (waive, trade, buyout) and don't re-sign Filppula.

It would hurt to see Filppula play for another team, but Tatar and Nyquist need to be playing full-time for this team and I think they can fill his shoes.

Signed Penner because we need to get a little bigger up front. I know he's not the most physical big guy, but I think he's a very good player.

What kills them right now is the guys Holland signed to be top 6/9 guys don't produce like you'd out of that role and you're not going to waste them in a 4th line role either...hence, Miller and Eaves playing the rest of the postseason over Bert and Sammy. My fear is the shoehorning of the crappy old vets in the roles that could be better served by a free agent or a young buck. Given what's under contract, that's probably what happens.

All you have to do is see the 4 teams left...how many of the guys in their top 6 are occupied by old wastes of space? Chicago can't seem to decide what to do with Handzus and they've just not get a good enough 2nd center but you imagine they'll address that over the summer. The Pens are such an oddity where you have linemates like Dupuis and Kunitz with Crosby. You don't have niche guys like that to pair with Datsyuk. The Kings and Bruins have strong top 6s...the Bruins have friggin Jagr stuck on the third line just because they don't have a better spot for him.

My fear is there will still be some guys in the wrong roles next year just given the bad multi-year deals given out in the last couple years. How do you justify keeping Bert and Sammy another year and even entertain the idea of re-signing Cleary or Flip when you didn't have Helm all year and barely used Tootoo. Is keeping Miller even necessary if Eaves can at least stay healthy? Emmerton only has a role on this team if Helm's back doesn't get better. The only need I see up front is a productive younger winger to play with Pavel but of course, that's been a need for years and we still see the likes of Cleary, Bert and Sammy holding that spot hostage.

To me, the defense is actually in pretty good shape when you put DeKeyser back there and I thought Quincey and Smith got better. You almost have to stick with what you have just because of the contractual situations. Kronwall-Ericsson is an adequate-to-solid #1 pair. I don't think free agent money is needed on defense simply because there are no empty lineup spots and you've got money tied up in Howard long-term. You spend on a goal-scorer in the top 6.

I have no issues with the goalies or defense (With the exception of keeping Colaiacovo instead of Lashoff). But I'm not sure why on earth would anyone spend over 4 million on a player like Clarkson. If we're spending that kind of money, we're better off getting someone like Horton.

Had this been a full season Clarkson would have been on pace for 30 goals he scored 15 more then any Red Wing 1 more then Datsyuk.

Ken Holland Is'nt buying out Samuelsson or Bertuzzi and Detroit does'nt have enough cap space to sign both Horton and Weiss though it would be sweet to sign both. After Holland resigns Brunner, Nyquist, Smith, Kindl and Andersson there will only be about $4,500,000 left in cap space and i dont see Holland spending up to the cap he has'nt done it yet.

If you manage to trade away CC or Q (prefer Q) then we have the cap room to get a more solid top4 guy.

As long as we replace the hangers on in our forward corp with cheaper/better/younger talent from GR we should have enough caproom. Nyquist, Anderson, Tatar, perfectly good replacements for guys like Cleary/Sammy/Bert, at less than half the cost! Plus we had cap room this year anyway. Even with the cap going down next year, we should have some money. If Miller doesn't stay cheap, hell, call up Sheahan or Ferraro. It's fourth line duty.

This is the future. Constantly replace guys that get too expensive with cheaper guys from your farm team. If you don't have good drafting/development, you will die. Thankfully, the Wings do have it. Now it's time to use it so we can afford the needs we can't just call up. That means legit top6 wingers and top4 d-men.

That's the problem. He's not willing to buy out the guys that aren't even playing. We'd be in much better shape if he did.

I think Weiss should be a big target for us, especially if Flip walks. He would give us big time center depth, and flexibility with the line-up and match-ups. You could play him on the 2nd line if you want to put Dats and Z together for a stretch, he can play 3rd C if you want to have a better 3rd scoring line. He could play 3rd C if Helm continues to battle injury problems. Think the guy would be a great addition to the team.

My ideal scenario would be getting Clowe and Weiss

Nyquist-Datsyuk-Franzen
Clowe-Zetterberg-Brunner
Abdelkader-Weiss-Tatar
Andersson-Helm-Eaves/Tootoo

it would be great if we could move sammy for a pick and/or prospect such as a 4th rounder but if we cant get that done by the draft or at the draft then he must be bought out. Big Bert can feasibly stay but given his injuries his usefulness is limited to the SO so i have also offered him a buyout package

i dont see tootoo going anywhere

i could see emmerton being waived sometime before xmas if helm is back to form with no setbacks but otherwise for 600k he is worth having

miller and brunner are resigned as well as all the RFA's

despite the fact we all would love a big bodied top 6 winger like horton or clarkson i dont see Holland appreciating those types of players like he should and instead goes after a skilled 2nd line centremen like weiss or roy who will also likely come cheaper then horton or clarkson and who may(in particular weiss) be a good bounce back type candidate and put up 65pts

the defence will stay the same

we're not a cap team anymore so left approx 3.5 million in space

I can see a buyout for Samuelsson+Colaiacovo ONLY IF, Nathan Horton or another 5 million UFA is signed.

If we don't get any extra guy from outside, there will be no buyouts. They will finish their contracts. Anything else is just hopeless wishful thinking. Holland respects his contracts if there's not salary cap need to make space. Period.

It does'nt sound like that Holland will be active at free agency it sounds like he's only going to resign players like Brunner, Smith, Kindl, Nyquist, Andersson, and it sounds like possibly Miller as well and maybe Cleary if he takes a cheap short term deal he could possibly go after Stalberg. but i will be surprise if Holland goes for the likes of Clarkson Horton he could still possibly chase Stephen Weiss since he wanted him at the trade deadline before he broke his hand. We shall see the Wings still have way to many forwards and i could possibly see some trades on the horizon i guess Holland would still love to have another Top 4 Defenseman for the right price.

To me, if Datsyuk is staying put for another contract...why the need to sign a center? Flip is expendable if you get Helm back, the need is for some beef and scoring on the wing. Horton would be ideal but he'll cost about as much Flip (at a minimum).

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,027,879; BONUSES: $1,010,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $282,121

Scoring top line, balanced 2nd line, energy 3rd line, and a somewhat physical 4th line.

Seriously doubt that Clowe will accept $3,750,000 Rumor has it that he wants a 8 year $40,000,000 deal not saying the he's worth that much but some team may give him that much seriously doubt the Rangers will so most likely he walks this summer.

If we're going to overpay for anyone it should be a #1 d-man. Scuderi would help bump Kronwall down to the second pairing where he belongs. To facilitate that I'd be down with a full on youth movement. I was one of the people pushing for this exact thing at the start of this season and it worked out very well, we got one OT game away from playing in the WCF.

Sproul can replace Sammy on the right point. Plus we have absolutely nothing in the way of offensive d-men other than Smith. Kronwall was a ghost, maybe he can start producing points when he's back in his rightful spot as a second pairing d-man. So Smith, Sproul and Kronwall against softer competition could help to create some offense from our defenders. Seriously, if we had anything in the way of competent offensive d-men our PP wouldn't have been complete horse **** and we would have beat the Hawks.

I'd also give Ferraro and Jarnkrok first call ups during the season. Otherwise this lineup has size, speed, offensive production, and enough defensive forwards to not get themselves into too much trouble. I'd get rid of Gustavsson but both Jimmeh and Petr need to play a boatload of games so we're stuck with Monster :sarcasm: for another season.

Isn't that a mighty big if right now? Every time we get news it's just a further delay and "we don't know."

Period.

But out period ends before UFA period starts.

So you can't go after Horton and then buy out Sammy and Cola.

There's no #1D at this UFA class. Scuderi is more like #2 or 3. Scuderi-Ericsson pair, two defensive Ds as top pair?

Since Bert signed a 35+ Contract even if he does retire were still on the hook for his salary for next year so if he's hurt and cant play he would be better off on LTIR.
