Point distribution. Has a ****-ton of goals, and not a lot of assists (comparatively). Either he doesn't see open teammates or he can't make the passes connect. I think it'll become more apparent how different Laughton is from Richards over the next few years.

He has significantly more assists than goals in his OHL career.

How do you look at 89 goals and 115 assists and then complain about his point distribution and his passing ability? That's a ratio of 1.29 assists for every goal.

Giroux had 196 in 187.

Richards had 177 in 233.

Laughton has 115 in 219.

Slight difference.

(By comparison, Carter had 123 in 236.)

So he's more of a goal scorer than Richards and less of a goal scorer than Carter. That's not a problem.

So do I. As a matter of fact I hope both he and Morin make the big club next year. Morin on the backend is just what this team is lacking. The kid is going to be a good one.

I much rather have Morin back in juniors next year, he's had a good year but it's still not dominate enough for my liking. The same opportunities that presented Laughton last offseason will be there for Morin this offseason (bigger role on Rimouski & a spot on Canada at the WJC's). If he passes the test 2015-2016 could very well be a strong possibility for him.

I really wonder if I would want Morin in The Q next year. I wish he was on a less stacked team where he could be the clear number 1 and get more ice time.

Rimouski since the end of the WJC does not use him on the PP and he is on a shut down role now.

Being in the Q may not be the best for his development unless he gets traded or Rimouski makes some other trades.

They're good, but they are far from stacked.

Thank you for that info! That explains why he's got only one point since January 10.

on defense yeah they are about as stacked as any junior team.

Oligny (93)
Leduc & MacKinnon (94)
Morin & Kostalek (95)
Rusk (96)
Picco & Bourque (97)

94 is the cutoff for overager's next year so Olginy won't be back for sure & I'm not sure if they'll use two of the overage spots on defense so one of Leduc of MacKinnon could be shipped out. So some spots should open up.

Don't worry about his points. Anyone who looks at his points and tries to make assumptions about his game are clearly boxscore analysts.

Darnell nurse for example gets 30 min of toi per game and is a staple of his teams 1st unit pp.

Morin on the other hand gets about 20 min a night and gets no pp time. However during the wjc he was basically a ppg player because Kostalek was out of the lineup and he finally got first unit pp time.

If Morin switched places with a guy like nurse i have no doubt he too would put the same amount of points as nurse.

I see them using only using 1 dman on the pp unit, so at best morin will be 2nd unit pp.

For someone of his caliber he should be running the pp on most teams.

I've seen only a few of his games about three months ago so I was just wondering why he's gone for so long without points. Have you seen many of his games? How has he looked?

I don't know what your definition of "stacked" is, but a junior team with only three draftees (2 this past draft and one I don't think will be signed) would not be one I consider stacked. Kelowna, Portland, Swift Current, Brandon, Guelph are some teams that have a better group on defensemen in my opinion. And last year London, Edmonton, and Portland were elite.

The Q as a whole has some skill up front, but their aren't many impact defensemen (at least the ones that were already draft eligible) in the league. So again I think Rimouski is far from "stacked".

There are around 60 teams in chl. Id say you named the teams with a better defense overall.

Morin is not the player he was made out to be imo. There were questions regarding his offense wheather or not it would develop, while his defense has been regarded as phenomenal.

I view him the other way. I have seen him look absolutely dominate on the PP. His slapshot is so fast that he has scored a few goals this year where the goalie didn't even flinch. He is a superb passer and looks comfortable in the ozone and rushing up ice. What troubles me about him is his play against smaller players. IN the q there are a ton of small fast players that can dangle. He looks bad against those players, and relies entirely too much on the poke check. Their last game against Halifax he really dominated in the dzone and drouin couldn't do anything against him.

I would sum up his defensive game like this. You have to go wide on him but his reach makes it impossible to go wide on him. When he gets caught flat footed is when he can be taken advantage of, and often times loses his man in front of the net.

On offense ive seen him be used in many ways. As a net presence, as the point on the pp, rushing up ice. However most of the time rimouski's dmen such as oligny and kostalek play up ice sometimes 4 in the zone and morin sits back as the lone defenseman. He is so big and mobile that he can thwart any odd man attack and this allows his d partner the luxury of having more freedom to play offense knowing that morin is there as a safety net.

If he is ready then move him up.
