With Eberle, Scandella, Hamonic, Pietrangelo, and McMillan no longer eligible and with Hall, Seguin, and perhaps Kadri potentially playing in the NHL who is ready to step up and assume the reins?

I don't know enough about the Canadian pipeline to post my own lineup but what could you put together assuming none of Hall, Seguin, Kadri are in the NHL? Also, who would replace them if they are?

Kadri is going to be an old fart next year (late 90).

I'd actually be curious as to who would make it too (obviously, there's a lot of hockey to be played til then) but being that they're going to be hosted in Buffalo, I hope at least 1 Sabre prospect makes it (hopefully McNabb or Kassian).

It does seem like Team Canada will be almost brand new, as the only eligible returnees from this year's team would be Ellis, De Haan, Schenn, Hall and Cowen. I think Hall will be in the NHL though. I doubt the others will but you never know. We'll have to see who improves a lot and plays well over the next year.

Schenn will likely be in the NHL, although LA could loan him to the WJC's.

From the OHL...

Jeff Skinner will be close to a lock as anyone.

Eric Gubranson will be invited on defence
Ryan Spooner and Tyler Toffoli as forwards will also be invited to camp.

* Matt Hackett is too old....1990 birth year

Some guys that have a chance-- Bellavance-Roy, Olsen, Glennie, Leblanc, Roussel, and Kassian.
Plus the returning guys from this year. Hall, De haan, Schenn, Ellis and Cowen.
O'Reilly, Kane and Duchene would so be eligible :(

Obviously there's more but that's off the top of my head.

How did I forget Tyler Sequin.

Taylor Beck,Jeff Skinner and Ryan Spooner as well. I like Mike Cazzola too, although a bit on the small size now at 5'7.

I thought so. I was sure he had been passed over once already.

I thought it was younger than 20 at the start of the tournament? Like, they could turn 20 a few days into the tournament. But couldn't start it as a 20 year old.

No it's done by year of birth.

The NHL draft has a cut off date of September 15.

All bolded players are too old to play. I think its very unlikely that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would make this team unless he puts on a Stamkos esque performance at camp. It seems the younger players have been having a harder go at the past few camps.

Ryan Murphy has a solid shot to make it as there aren't too many puck-movers and agile defenceman like him in these age groups.

This is a really raw roster, obviously it's subject to change over the next year. Something to keep in mind as you look it over. It was also done on the assumption that Seguin and Hall will be in the NHL.

Scott Glennie - Brayden Schenn "A" - Carter Ashton
Should be some natural chemistry on this line. Glennie plays with Brayden in Brandon, Ashton and Schenn played Midget together in Saskatoon.

Sean Couturier - Louis Leblanc "A" - Jeff Skinner
Couturier has big time offensive skill, Leblanc has a history with Hockey Canada and two-way skill, Skinner scores goals and judging by his history with Kitchener, big goals.

Taylor Beck - Peter Holland - Zack Kassian
Beck has established himself as a strong power forward at this level, Holland brings enough speed to have an effective forecheck, Kassian is the bang and crash muscle.

Bradley Ross - Brett Connolly - Cody Eakin
Ross brings size and good offence for a younger player. Connolly is a warrior, something which may have led to his injuries but Hockey Canada loves him. Eakin has blazing speed and a nose for the net.

John McFarland
He was at this year's camp, Hockey Canada loves him. He has the skill but he hasn't shown enough to take a regular shift.

Defence

Calvin de Haan "A" - Dylan Olsen
These two played huge shutdown minutes together in the 2009 Spring U-18s. Both have offensive skill as well and Olsen can deliver big time physically.

Brandon Gormley - Ryan Ellis "C"
Gormley is among the best two-way defensemen in the CHL already. He's mobile and big, which makes him an ideal partner for Ellis. He was lights out at the last Ivan Hlinka Tournament.

Erik Gudbranson - Alexander Petrovic
These two were paired together as the shutdown tandem at last summer's Ivan Hlinka Tournament and the Canadian's romped to a Gold Medal. Both are big, both are mobile and both can bring the pain.

Stefan Elliott
Huge powerplay weapon. Great offensive defenseman who brings outstanding mobility.

Goaltenders

Calvin Pickard
Louis Domingue

This tandem is young and incredibly skilled. Both are potential Top 50 selections in this year's draft. Some have Domingue as a first rounder. Both were praised by Bob Boughner for their work at the Ivan Hlinka last summer.

Cowen will be on the team. His knee was clearly not 100% for this tournament, but in a year, and with an offseason to train on it, he should be back. I would be shocked if he isn't one of Canada's top defensemen next year.

I agree in 2012 but next year if he makes the team would be as a PP specialist.

Like it. Though, Cowen will probably be back. We all know he is a much better player than what he showed.

What about Ryan Spooner for forward. He has been the lone bright spot on a awfull season for the Petes.

I dont think Ashton has the offensive capabilties to be 1st line. We dont want another Nemisz to do nothing.

Other than that, I like your team

Ashton might not be a bad choice because he's at least a net presence.

I thought one of the main problems (outside of coaching and goaltending) against the Americans was Canada's lack of anyone crashing the net. It was all skill and dipsy-dos and cute passes but no one constantly in Campbell's/Lee's face. No one was bumping the goalie and screening him. I was actually surprised by that since that's usually Canada's bread and butter.

I like your team Ranger Red. Only thing is after this years tourny I became sort of biased with sspeed and mobility. So I am kind of skeptical ofplayers like Beck who might be another Caron but other than that your forwards look pretty good. I think Devante Smith-Pelly is amongst the best along the boards in the entire CHlL and has to be considered. Ryan Howse can score as can Landon Ferraro and both can really fly out there. Howden brings size, speed and skill as well. We lacked a true playmaker out there and I am struggling to find a true one out there for this team.On D I was amazed by Taylor Doherty's mobilty and with his size he can be a force. Brett Ponich has looked great this year and together could create another Aulie-Myers type tandem although likely not as good. Our D needs to be mobile this year, I think thats key. Cowen will likely be back and better IMO.For goalies I would pick Olivier Roy and Maxime Clermont based on experiance.

I was weary of putting too many 18 year olds on the team. 5/13 forwards were eighteen, 3/7 defensemen and both goaltenders. The problem with Spooner, and I like Ryan Spooner as a player, is that he doesn't work in the bottom six. He's gotta play top six minutes. Not sure where I'd put him in the top six.

As for Ashton, the problem with Nemisz is that in spite of his size, he's always played like a steer. Ashton, at least, knows how to play like a bull. He'll do the dirty jobs on that line if it's asked of him, which was something Nazem Kadri was forced to do on Nemisz' line this year.

In net, if Jack Campbell showed us anything this year, you always, always, always, always go with skill. On skill, Pickard and Domingue are the best goaltenders we have. I lined up a very mobile D. And take this from someone who's seen Taylor Doherty play some 40 times over the last three years, he has some good games but they're not the norm. He's nowhere near as dominant physically as he needs to be in order to be effective.
Remember, when you're selecting a Team Canada, a lot of it is attributable to a coach's familiarity with the players and Hockey Canada's history with them. Al Murray brings the kids to camp that Hockey Canada has liked for a long time (kids like Kozun are an exception). The coaches take the kids they know can play at a high level and the ones who stand out at camp.
In this case, the coach I picked was Bob Boughner, for me it's not a stretch to say that he would take a lot of the players that ran over the competition for him at last summer's Hlinka Tournament.
