Too Far
- My main purpose was just to make a list of the top eligible players in the 2010 NHL entry draft, so no need to take the ranking too seriously, especially after the top20.
- In some cases it was hard to determine whether the player was a Canadian or an American, so there's probably some mistakes.
- It was also pretty hard to find American players outside the NTDP, so that's the reason why there's not many prep. school/college/minor league etc. players.

... So what do you think? What are the notable players that I didn't find/discover while doing my research? What would you change in my top20?

From a Swedish point of view, forward Gabriel Landeskog and especially defenseman Adam Larsson are candidates to be first round picks. Compared to how good other first rounds have been previous years. Larsson is a beast on d. Excellent two-way defenseman with great size and strength.

Wasn't Teemu Pulkkinen higher ranked then 15th? I know it's mother early and I appreciate the list nonetheless...

Landeskog and Larsson are late born92's, so they are 2011 eligible.

I saw Pulkkinen play 5 days ago and he just didn't look like a top5 pick. In the offensive zone he's great, but otherwise his game needs a lot of work.

well actually there are some players you missed or ranked way too low.

Ranking to low:

Mikael Granlund - the guy is better than most forwards you have ranked in front
Austin Watson - this guy will be a top 15 pick in the draft.
Brandon Gormley - this guy will be a top 3 pick in the draft
Erik Gudbranson - this guy will be a top 8 pick in the draft for sure.
Maxime Clermont - This guy will possibly be the top goalie in the draft, still a raw talent.
Petr Straka - Should be a 1st rounder IMO
Brandon Hynes - Will be a top prospect for the drat IMO
Ben DUffy - should be one of the top forwards for the draft
Jon Merrill - Actually an amazing defender, i think he will be top 15 pick in the draft
Quinton Howden - wow you have him low...i would think 1st round for him, great size, skating and all around skills IMO.
Kevin Sundher is some low here...i would think 1st round for him
Adam Pettersson...too much skill to not go in 1st round IMO

Missed players;
Alexander Gogolev - A possible 1st rounder, he plays two way hockey while adding great offense.

Yasin Cisse - I don't see him here...he is big, fast, strong, great around the net, and excellent all around skills, power forward, going NCAA route he is a big time talent and would have been a top 3 pick in the QMJHL draft if he was going this route...

Where is Cedrick Henley from Val-D'Or he is another one, great size, excellent skills.

OP, just curious as to why Kabanov is #1 on the list over Hall.

I haven't been fortunate enough to have seen Kabanov play and have never been able to dig up any stats on the guy - so I'm having a hard time figuring out how he dethrones the OHL's current leading scorer.

Also, I'm no genius on US players but can provide some non-NTDP players later on. There are lots of guys around who can probably fill that role better than I though. :)

Granlund at 11. Why? Today again with an hattrick and 2 assists against 3-5 year older guys. 24 games played with 17 goals and 25 assists. Almost 2 points per game (same goes with the U-18 national team).

Ok, he's not a tall guy and never will be (still has year time to grow), but you can't pass on a guy with all that talent...

I don't want to criticize the OP because everyone is entitled to their opinion but I feel this list is based off stats. How many players have you seen?

All I have heard about Merill is he's one best defenseman for his age group in the USA. OP did you know he came back from shoulder surgery this past fall?

I have to give you credit for putting a top 100 out though.

I really doubt that there will be just 1 Swede in 1st round, espescially since it's a strong class for Sweden.

Also. I really doubt guys like John Persson and Felix Liljegren will not be in TOP 100.

I would be very shocked if anyone is able to jump Taylor Hall, he just turned 17 8 weeks ago, and he's leading the OHL which has several great players in it right now, as well he has so many other skills it's really hard to find a flaw in this kid's game, i think it would be near impossible for someone to jump over him especially a russian with all the questionable stuff going on out there it's hard to see someone using their 1st overall pick, a pick that can determine their franchise and roll the dice on a euro pick with one of the best Canadian players to come along in the last 15 years up for grabs.

Austin Watson should be much higher he's been a great player this year. Where's Joe Rogalski, i've seen his name as the 2nd highest OHL defenceman on prelimiary lists but he's not even in your top 100? You don't have many if any power forwards in this draft it looks pretty small, so why isn't Greg Sutch out there? he's one of the fastest power forwards i've seen in the OHL and he looks alot like Bobby Ryan when he's on his game, he'll never have that great goal scoring touch like Bobby Ryan but he skates like him for a big man, very physical, and does have good hands around the net, not elite hands, but definately good hands, he does look like he could be a Bobby Ryan type player in 2 years.
What about Greg McKegg, Christian Thomas, Freddie Hamilton, Brock Beukeboom.

It isn't all about numbers some of these guys under 15 points due to ice time and so on have incredable futures, the OHL isn't very well represented on this list casue there are some very good OHLers out there that aren't in your top 100. They shouldn't dominate like they did a year ago but there are i'd say about 20 that could easily go in the first 3 or 4 rounds.

Mikael Granlund - the guy is better than most forwards you have ranked in front
Height is still an issue for many GM's?

Petr Straka - Should be a 1st rounder IMO

P.|Name|Birthdate|H.|lbs.|L/R|Team|Nat|Stats|
F|Petr Straka|15-JUN-92|5'11|135|L|Plzen|CZE|17gp 9g+9a=18p (Jr.A)

F|Michal Vachovec|15-JUL-92|6'0|145|L|Karlovy Vary|CZE|25gp 10g+8a=18p (Jr.A)
F|Antonin Honejsek|19-DEC-91|6'0|165|L|Zlin|CZE|30gp 17g+19a=36p (Jr.A)

Have you seen Kindl, Vachovec or Honejsek, and what do you think about them?

Jon Merrill - Actually an amazing defender, i think he will be top 15 pick in the draft
The reason why I placed him so low was that he only had one assist in 16games. What do you think about the other big NTDP defenders Tinordi, Forbort and Johns?

P.|Name|Birthdate|H.|lbs.|L/R|Team|Nat|Stats|

Missed players;
Alexander Gogolev - A possible 1st rounder, he plays two way hockey while adding great offense.
Could Tarasenko, Burmistrov, Berdnikov, Kutznetsov and Berdinkov be 1st rounders as well? Is Gogolev still only 5'8'' tall?

Yasin Cisse - I don't see him here...he is big, fast, strong, great around the net, and excellent all around skills, power forward, going NCAA route he is a big time talent and would have been a top 3 pick in the QMJHL draft if he was going this route...

Is he a 2011 eligible? Born Nov. 3th 1992?

Thank you for your comments scoutman1. I would also like to know what do you think about Nino Niederreiter and Tom Kühnhackl, and have you seen them play?

OP, just curious as to why Kabanov is #1 on the list over Hall.

I haven't been fortunate enough to have seen Kabanov play and have never been able to dig up any stats on the guy - so I'm having a hard time figuring out how he dethrones the OHL's current leading scorer.

It's a matter of taste who you place first. They have twice played in the same tournament, looks pretty even stats wise. Kabanov is also 8 months younger and still looks fairly skinny, so I guess that he can improve his strength level more than Hall?

2008 U18-Hlinka Memorial Tournament:
Kirill Kabanov 4gp 3g+3a=6p
Taylor Hall 4gp 2g+4a=6p

2008 World Under-17 Hockey challenge:
Kirill Kabanov 5gp 2g+9a=11p
Taylor Hall 5gp 4g+4a=8p

Riku Harma.. Isnt he supposed to be pretty good?
Moved to a new team, had a bad groin injury and hasn't grown height.

I don't want to criticize the OP because everyone is entitled to their opinion but I feel this list is based off stats. How many players have you seen?
This list is based on stats and on lists that I have read on this site and some others. I have only seen a couple of these players, because I live in Finland.

All I have heard about Merill is he's one best defenseman for his age group in the USA. OP did you know he came back from shoulder surgery this past fall?
I read opinions about Merill before making this list, but his stats made me place him so low.

Cisse is born March 11, 1992 i just got my QMJHL draft sheets out that the league gave us nd my team.

I saw Kuhnhackl play, i really really like him alot i think he has 1st round potential could even work up really high in the 1st round....and Niederreiter one of my scouts saw him who was down at the U18s and he said he is really really good.

- It was also pretty hard to find American players outside the NTDP, so that's the reason why there's not many prep. school/college/minor league etc. players.

... So what do you think? What are the notable players that I didn't find/discover while doing my research? What would you change in my top20?
PM me if you want a few Minnesotan's to add to your list. There's almost always at least one first rounder. Only a couple of college freshmen will be elligible next season, but I can name those for you as well.

I have had to follow a lot of these guys so here are my scouting reports.

Jarred tinordi- Extremely big and talented d man. Leads by example, has improved his skating and shot considerably. Big frame and needs to add weight, yet he still has a mean streak. HIs ceiling is high as a good d man in the NHL one day, but he doesn't have the offesnive tools to be a great defender.

derek forbort- a solid skate who needs to wrok on his mobility, but he has a solid two way game already with nice hockey sense. the only thing about him is that he is extremely raw and uses his innate ability to play so well at the current levels. hard worker and is more likely 6 2 or 6 3. A great defenseman none teh less, i think he has the chance to be like a Ryan MCdonagh type prospect, actually better, and be close to the top 10.

Stephen Johns- Highly mobile and solid d man. rarely makes any mistakes.

Jon Merrill- The question is where do you start? If he was 10-20 pounds heavier he would be a top 5 pick. His ceiling is just as good if not better than fowler's, who btw is going to be a gem too. He skates like the wind and is extremely mobile. sick hands and a blistering shot. eveyrthing done is a fluid motion. he is a hockey player. the only knock on him is how much weight can he add and can he develop some meanness? When i look at this draft class, i like it a lot. However, after watching many of these players i am not wowwed by man other than the top 5 on your list. these d men are extremely raw though and have tons of potential.

Jon Parker is too high, the John Parker, a 92, on the USHL's Indiana Ice could be on this list too. THe Jon Parker from Seattle may find himself in the top 100 if he progresses his offensive game though. This is a nice list and extremely difficutl to garner this informatin. Generally scouting agencies and companies send 3-5 scous to simply do a region. You seemed to have, although you probably didn't see them all, garnered the stats and based it off your own eyes and word of mouth. when you watch some of htese kids though, your list will change dramatically.
I will have a report for the top OHL and USA players for this draft class soon for you as I have been assigned to scout some of the kids on your list and some who were questionable omissions.

To be honest, I think its still too early to create an accurate list of the top 100 draft eligible players for next years draft. The main reason I say this is because of the fact that this is the first year most players(1992 born) are able to play junior hockey. And because junior teams in Canada are only able to sign a maximum of four 16 year olds, this leaves many potential players unknown. A prime example of this is Calvin deHaan of the Oshawa Generals. Because he did not make the Gens last year as a 16 year old, no one had heard of him coming into this season. But because he has played extremely well thus far, it would not surprise anyone if he went in the first round.
