"Anytime you have young players in the lineup, it’s a long season and there’s a big learning curve," Nolan said after Thursday's morning skate. "You start seeing it drop off a little bit, and you’ve got to get it before it gets down too far. We had a good talk this morning about what he has to do on a consistent basis. He’ll get right back in."

Zadorov sat out the first two games after the All-Star break because he returned to Buffalo late. He had an assist and skated 19:04 against Vancouver, then started Tuesday's game against Montreal on the power play.

Zadorov finished with just 13:39 of ice time, his lowest total since Nov. 5.

"He’s standing around a little bit too much," Nolan said. "He’s got to skate a little bit more. He’s starting to swoop.

"Because we’re in the position we are doesn’t mean we have to play a certain way. We still have to maintain that certain level of standard, especially for young guys, to make sure they don’t get any of those bad habits."

No issue with Zads getting a night off. Wouldn't hurt for Risto to watch for a game or two soon either.
