I know, right? It's almost like some people's ability to evaluate players extends no further than reading a box score.

But we tolerate these people, because a respectful and rational discourse is more important than winning snarky little internet catfights.

Oh, feel free to school me on that see-past-the-box-score thing, i'm real new to this game you see.

now, if only these issues of rationality, respect, and especially non-snarkiness you cite were applied to evaluating players and their performance wouldn't it be a wonderful place around here?

Exactly where do you want the conversation to go from here?

I just want to remind you that this whole debacle began with you calling out a post from the first page of LAST game. I got sucked in when you attacked me for posting what amounted to a "me too" comment. So at this point the level of defensiveness is far, far, far disproportionate to the scale of whatever perceived insult you felt was being directed at LaRose.

A Sanguinetti bandwagon on this board would be hilarious.

He's played some good games this year. Some real bad ones too, but the good ones show he's at least capable of being a solid 3rd pair guy.

I've been critical of Sangs as much as anybody here, but it might be time to take a step back and let the guy develop before piling on the criticism.

Honestly, it really looks like Dave Lewis is having a good effect on him. Most of his really terrible games were at the beginning of the season, and his last couple have been at least workman like, with occasional flashes. He's also been a + player his last 3 games. He also had a career time on ice record tonight (over 21 minutes) by a large margin.

While I suspect his ceiling is not real high, I'm warming up to the idea of him as a 6/7 guy for league minimum or thereabouts. Perhaps even shades of Jay Harrison 2.0 (but not quite as good, but for less money).

That shot where he tried to shoot it but tripped over himself which caused a odd man rush on the Tavares goal... so Mcbainish lol

I'm gonna go ahead and assume we won because I *DIDN'T* wear a Canes jersey and instead wound up accidently wearing a Star Trek shirt to an upscale bar. Good karma and such not

Next game I plan on wearing a Galactus t-shirt and my Pac-Man hoodie to get a good theme going. Galactus is the devourer of planets, Pac-Man is the devourer of fruit and this team is the devourer of weak road points. I'll also only speak in food puns during the game.

Between that and Semin likley potting 8 goals, we should win fairly comfortably.

Shut the game off at 2-0 isles on GCL to be with my girl and well lookie here 4-2 win

You gave in after what, 4 mins?

Glad they were able to pull out a W. Although against the Isles, I don't know that is a whole lot to celebrate. On to the next one.

I haven't read any previous post, so please forgive if this is redundant, but I feel like I need to say this: Chad LaRose had a very good game. And that is irrespective of the fact that he did not play any part of the 2 goals that were scored while he was on the ice...he still had a very good game overall.

^ Is that enough to punish Tlusty by dropping him to the 3rd or 4th line?

Was that move a compliment to Tlusty by saying, "you're hot right now, and we need you to spark these deadweights"?

Well, obviously I didn't say anything of the such, so I'm presuming that you're just asking that question as a rhetorical response. I can't say that I was happy with seeing Tlusty on other lines, myself.

I don't understand why LaRose can't play like he did last night even when he's not on the top lines. People like to talk about how much of a team guy he is and how hard he works, but...we've seen him demoted to the 3rd and 4th lines a couple of times, and his play ends up having a respective downgrade. Interesting, because I don't think he's ever been accused of being a moper, but we certainly have some evidence of him not playing his game when he doesn't get to play on the big lines.

Even though he's got much more NHL experience, I think the same should apply to McBain. It's funny to see posts about acquiring Niskanen, who is basically a slightly older version of McBain who continued his development.

I get the fact that there are too many PMD's but I think McBain suffers from the microscopic analysis that similar players on other teams won't get from a Canes fan. Dallas traded Niskanen for many of the same reasons some fans want to part with McBain.

Because he's playing a supporting role, and on this team the bottom-6 isn't doing anything on offense that can really be supported.

Last night, LaRose's best offensive plays involved simply being in a position to exchange passes with Eric Staal (which is harder than it sounds, as we saw with Boychuk). If instead of Staal it's Riley Nash or Jeremy Welsh, passes are a non-factor because the line is probably pinned down in their own zone instead of making an offensive play in the first place.

I'm guessing that Muller saw an opportunity to try and get some momentum going for Chad, or at least get a neutral charge from him on the top line, and at the same time create at least a tiny amount of offensive push from the third line. Given the timing for both LaRose and Tlusty, it's not a bad idea, but it doesn't seem like a permanent solution either. More of a temporary kick-start to get a little extra energy from both lines.

I saw it much the same way. Plus, the NYI top 4 D is mostly finesse-style PMD's (exception being Hamonic) so it was a good match-up for him in that regard.
