That doesn't include Kylington's LTIR of 2.5 mil.

If I'm not mistaken, as the cap accrues, we hit around 3.5 mil at the TDL and can fit a $6 mil AAV player as a rental at the TDL without needing to move any cap out. Unless I've read that wrong.

LTIR space will accumulate yes. Kylington is not on LTIR. He is on IR. Contracts on IR count against the cap but allow you to replace them in the roster spot.

Oops, you're right. I edited my post because I read it wrong. 1.5 mil of raw cap space accrues to about 20 games of a 6 million dollar AAV player (6 million / 82 games is around $74K per game). So at the TDL, we can add approximately a 6 million AAV player without moving cap around because 4.5 million of their cap hit has been associated with that team and 1.5 million would be associated with ours.

Kylington won't be on IR the entire season though (or will he?). And while he is on IR, his cap hit counts against the cap and the player you added to replace him eats into your cap more each day! The min he returns, you cap space goes to near $0 quickly.

From what I see, Flames have to send a contract back if they are adding the RW they want.

? Kylington is counting towards our cap right now and I believe the Flames have that 1.5 million while including him.

Yes, I get that but I think you think it creates way more cap space than it actually does. Basically, you can add a $1.5M player. Trying to add a top line RW will require a contract going the other way.
No you just don't know how prorating works. On the Trade deadline the league will be at day 144/185. That's ~78% of the season completed. Thus all contracts and cap hits will be 78% paid off for the season.

Lets use a 6M cap hit for example. At the TDL It will have a remaining cap hit for the season of 6M x (1 - 0.78), or 22% for 1.32M. Last time I checked that is less than 1.5M

I know how it works. But you are expecting Kylington to be on IR all season? Why not put him on LTIR now and accumulate more space? Probably because he not eligible to go on LTIR? You tell me.

The min Kylington comes back, you have to send a player to the AHL and your cap space goes to $0M and there is no prorating bud. $0M prorated today is $0M at the deadline. Remember, you added a $1M player to fill his roster spot. Flames are going with a 22 man roster, not 23. You don't have as much cap space as you think you do

Right now Cap Friendly says you have $1.5M in cap space and projected cap space of $1.3M. You're actually loosing cap space with the $1M player added each day. Unless Kylington goes on LTIR here soon.

Ask yourself the question why the current space space is less than the projected.

Cap friendly literally says we have 1.3 Mil cap space right now, no LTIR and projected TDL cap space of $6.05 million at the top. I think you're confused. I believe Kylington and the other Dman is included.

Why Kylington is not on LTIR is probably because we don't need to exceed the cap. I think you're confused how LTIR works in the cap structure. LTIR contracts still count, you are just allowed to exceed the cap by those contracts if needed to ice a roster. In theory we could exceed the cap by Kylington's cap hit as part of the TDL trade but that's only if he's on LTIR and the situation is hazy, so it's better to assume he's not on LTIR. But we don't need to use LTIR as of right now. We are eliw the cap ceiling.

We honestly don't know what's going on with Kylington. We just know he's at home in Sweden due to a personal reason. We don't know if he could end up on LTIR in a similar manner To Drouin.

It says the current cap space is $1.578M and the projected cap space is $1.373M. Check tomorrow or next week to see how these numbers change.

Basically, you were forced to add a $1M player to replace him in the roster spot. Faster he comes back or is placed on LTIR the better

Being placed on LTIR does nothing, he still counts against the cap

Yeah... and then you read the number below those two you just said.

Deadline cap space $6,051,786.

That deadline cap space amount probably fluctuates as you said, but not towards zero as you keep saying. And I still think you have the concept of LTIR incorrect. LTIR Kylington might mean we can target a player with 8.5 AAV or something like that to exceed the cap. But at this very moment and up to the TDL, we don't need to worry about exceeding the cap ceiling.

But if that's not the case and he comes back sooner as you mentioned, we likely send Mackey or someone down which gives us slightly more cap space to work with for accrual reasons (currently both Mackey and Kylington cap hits are simultaneously counting at the moment if I'm not mistaken).

I know he’s more of a PP specialist, but Olofsson + Jokhiharju + _________ for Rasmus Anderson?

What would the plus need to be from Calgary fans perspective?

Buffalo needs a long term partner for Power, and a RHD in particular (Dahlin already plays on his off hand a lot).

Flames aren't trading Ras. Complete non starter. That also doesn't come close if he were available, like the + would have to be pretty significant
