Who could be available, and what would it take?

NYR untouchables: Igor, Fox.
None are available which is why Drury locked up Zibanejad. Eichel was the closest available and he was only available because neck issues and clash with management.

You don't lock Mika up for the term and money they just did if you don't think he's your guy. Having a #1C doesn't meam necessarily having one that is a top five in the league. Most teams have to deal with that. When Mika is on, he's an amazing player. When he isn't he is still a player that won't cost you by being irresponsible. I will take him into a playoff series any time. If he gets hot while the others play their games it means trouble for anyone we face.

I don't think the Rangers are in a bad place here. They locked up the excellent Mika Zibanejad already, and they're evidently pursuing Tomas Hertl, whether as a trade target or as an offseason free agency target.

Personally, I think the idea of the trade-and-sign maneuver is generally a bad idea for acquiring clubs. Present a clean rental offer (a first rounder plus a middling to good prospect - but not an elite prospect) with no suggestion of an extension. If the Sharks find a team willing to send a package that is predicated on a trade-and-sign, then good for them. Let the player go. I wouldn't get caught up in those types of negotiations, though.

Pending UFAs shouldn't ever return that kind of haul and the Rangers are always a destination of choice for free agents. I'd pursue him but only to that extent, as a rental. Then hope he makes it to free agency, present the best possible offer, and let other assets go to make room for the new contract if he signs. That team has attractive assets that management would be able to move to be compliant with the salary cap.

1c's cost money. Rangers spent their money on Zibanejad for the 1c role. Rangers now need a future 2c.

Zibby is fine, albeit unproven to a certain extent in the post season. Rangers will probably go the URFA route and nab a guy to play 2C . The big apple has always been a premier spot for free agents to get their payday. Don't think the rangers push in all their chips at the deadline.

If you listen to what the Rangers fans here say, there's no way they're going to resign Strome to term for 6 a season so they're either going to put a prospect, rooki, youngen in that position, trade for one (without giving up anything of note) or sign one better than Strome at a bargain rate...

JT Miller is a #1 center who would be tied for your team lead in points.
On an amazing contract for another season at 5.25. Retention could be done.
Plays PP and PK. Heart and soul guy.

But the Rags fans think they will get a top line guy for unproven prospects and 2nd round pics. Lol

edit. Wrong Miller. Lol

JT Miller doesn't have great even strength strength points/60 numbers. Assuming NYR puts him at the 2c spot and not rw1, do you see Miller producing the same with less minutes? Rangers would be foolish not to put him on RW for the 1st powerplay unit, but he's most likely not taking minutes from Zibanejad, so what it would take to acquire a player sold as a top line, 1c or 1rw, just doesn't make a lot of sense for NYR to spend for when they can't utilize him that way.

I’m not saying he’s even available, but if the Jets continue to struggle and decide to make a massive shakeup of team chemistry would, Mark Scheifele be of any interest? If so what would an offer look like?
