Neither game were even the best rep of it's genre in 97.
Quake 2 was a killer app on top shelf PCs and is still playable.
Where as Ultima Online was the go to RPG for the next two years.
As for console games, SotN is the masterpiece of the year, and neither of these games come close to the "perfect" Castlevania.
FF7 wasn't even the best FF game that year, Tactics blew it away.
And the only thing GE has going for it is longevity, as it's still a speedrun staple.
Other then that, both games don't deserve a vote.
