The human head is such a crazy thing. A few CM either way and he could have skated away with some stitches and a head ache

The helmet does not guarantee absolute safety just like the seatbelt. The puck happen hit the helmet hard enough to puncher the Tempo area of the helmet which probably causes the helmet to puncher his tempo.

the odds of this happening……. Well the amount of organized games played from the start of professional hockey in the 1900s from all leagues that are happening in every day from junior leagues etc etc…. An accident like this has never happened.

last time a nhl player got hit in the puck in the head was daymond langkow. He was never the same.

this is unreal. I can’t believe this happened to anyone. I wish this individual all the best.

There's a pretty decent gap in protection in the ear area fo rmost guys. I'm guessing the puck caught him almost flush.

And that looks nothing like the helmet i wore 20 years ago when i played hockey. There was so much more covered up when i played, like there was zero openings around the entire head including neck.

But with everything that involves the head and helmet the players will fight hand over foot for there ability to wear what they want because comfort to them is more important then safety.

Langkow is definitely not the last NHL player to get hit in the head with a puck

Really hits home. Ive been hit in the helmet with pucks that hard. Damn.

Really hoping for a miracle.
Yeah, i took a slapper (beer league slapper, but still) right to the temple . Hurt like a bitch but only ended up with a scar where the helmet material dug into the skin in front of my ear . Just horrible luck he must have gotten hit in the exact wrong spot

I dont get the part where it says he cant be treated because of where he is. He needs surgery but cant get it where he is and cant be taken somewhere capable. Where was this game played?

Most recreational-tier buckets come with full face shield/cage and those plastic ear-protectors, which might have saved this guy from bad injury (assuming puck hit just above his ear). Guys like Kane and Crosby have those.

But yeah, modern helmets aren't as bulky as the 80's/90's and guys cut their visors so low nowadays, combined with shoulder pads being much more low profile and less bulky...it looks like there's more exposed areas, even if the helmets themselves absorb and handle forces to the head better than the ones back then.

Probably a smaller town/city in russia. I know my home towns hospital would not be able to handle this kind of surgery. And even the city that is just 1 hour away might not be able to do the surgery.

So if he is as bad as some are saying he is, then he might not be able to be moved to a hospital that can perform this kind of surgery.

This is nightmarish. Such a simple play that happens a thousand times a season. Who would imagine that an outcome like this is even possible with players wearing helmets? A one-in-a-million fluke.

Have to imagine he and his family have a very hard time ahead, even in the best case scenario. Unbelievable how much damage was done to his body already.

I mean, plenty have been hit in the head with the puck since Langkow, just with varying outcomes, but it ended Bryan Little's career more recently.

Jesse's visor is pretty much useless, the way he wears it..
