probably an overused turn of phrase, but franchise-defining weekend. every area of need has been addressed, basically without mortgaging any of the future

That’s the crazy part. We have added A TON this weekend. We still have our 2020 1st. We still have our top older prospects.

We haven’t given any legit roster player away. Severson is still here. Vats is still here. Wood, Zacha.

And most importantly.....BRATT is still here. :thumbu:

I really like this pick. Moynihan is a smart, supportive player who is versatile and can play up and down the lineup...very much a Joey Anderson type player in that capacity. Not a whole lot of high-end skill, but an infectious work ethic.

Joey Anderson is my comparison as well -- great minds think alike, haha. To give some perspective, both Anderson and Moynihan are extremely smart and competitive two-way players in the Ryan Callahan mold. Moynihan also has a bit of Dustin Brown in his game; he loves to throw the body around and create havoc in the crease. Both Anderson and Moynihan are hailed everywhere they play for their character and leadership qualities. Both are outstanding defensive players and very mature positionally. I'd say Moynihan gets the edge in physicality, but Anderson is the superior skater.

Simply put, Moynihan at #158 was an outstanding pick and borderline steal. Three years ago, the Devils were organizationally bereft at RW. Though they can still benefit from drafting a high-scoring, top-line bluechip RW, they have several candidates for very effective RWs on the second, third and fourth lines in Anderson, Zetterberg, Bastian, Clarke, and Moynihan. It is also important to note that Mikey McLeod can be used on the RW, and it's still too early to give up on Nikita Popugayev.

Honestly, with Hughes and Hall I don't think there's a huge need for a "high-scoring, top-line bluechip RW". The prospects they've been getting will work out just fine :)

I disagree. Palms isn't getting any younger. We'll need a replacement for him eventually.

Yes but with Hughes, Hall, Hischer...that's going to require a lot of cap space. It's more realistic to have cheaper but solid wingers to compliment them. Also if you're going with that argument, then we need a #1 lw as well...I wasn't really thinking about Palmieri's replacement since that's kind of like way later.

Thing is, we have LWs in the pipeline. I'm not sure if we have Top 6 RWs. Maybe Anderson and/or Bastian, but nothing really clear cut for me.

Studenic and Clarke are solid hopefuls. Also I have no idea who's what position for some of the forwards they drafted cuz it was different from what was shown and what's listed at eliteprospects.

The thing is when you have two 1Cs + Hall + Boqvist (who I think will be an insane 2LW) you really only need competent RWs to go with them. I will gladly take 2 complimentary players at the top 2RW spots if we have incredible duos at LW/C.

I'm not sure why you quoted me, but this is what I'm saying haha.
