• No time to do a real DYK this time, so I'll just tell you what the obscure half-assed theme is and who the musical act is.
• The Saddest Music in the World is a 2003 Canadian expressionist musical dark comedy written and directed by Guy Maddin and starring Isabella Rossellini, Mark McKinney, & Maria de Medeiros. The story tells of a contest being held in Winnipeg by a legless beer baroness to see which country makes the saddest music in the world. It's a weird movie.
• Built to Spill are a Boise-based indie rock band centered around members Doug Martsch, Brett Netson, and Jim Roth that started playing in 1992. Their 1994 album There's Nothing Wrong With Love (#24) & 1997 album Perfect From Now On (#22) ranked in the top 25 of Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of the 1990s list and their 1999 album Keep It Like A Secret ranked 3rd on their Top 10 Albums of 1999 list.. Their 8th album is set for release sometime this year, but details have been sparse on it. I'd pimp out their impending tour, but it's a west-coast only thing for the most part (the furthest east they're going is Colorado Springs, so they won't be anywhere near Mr. Small's Fun House this time...but there's 11 California shows...so...sweet for me, I haven't seen them since I moved away from Pittsburgh).

So that's what I went with. Nisky is a fairly obscure Chinese graphic artist...trust me, I only know of him/her/it because of searching for something Niskanen or Nisky-related. Someone needs to give that guy a real nickname so I have something to work with

For what it's worth, "niska" means "neck" in Finnish, Niskanen being a Finnish name and all. -nen is just a very common suffix in Finnish surnames.

Also, anyone watch Firefly? The show had a character called Adelai Niska, who was kinda like a mob boss.

I've played the drums for 33 years. I'm not Neil Peart, but I can play many of his songs quite well. On topic, many drummers I know have a "spot" they zone in on when they are focused and really locked into the beat for tempo's sake. In this song there's nothing(for the drummer) but the beat. The rhythm and tempo are everything behind the spacey guitar sounds the guitarist is laying down.
When I am really challenged as a drummer, I find myself also locking into a particular spot on my kit. I also make this face where I drop my jaw open a little and kind of "zone out."

I'd like to add that this is far less weird than "guitar face", which any fan of live music can attest to witnessing.
