Hard to understand why Yzerman isn't tired of this ********. If I were him I'd fire Lauer and hire a real PP coach posthaste.

Pretty sure Lauer wasn't actually hired for the PP. Or, at least, that's what was said at the time of the hiring. The PP is Coop's.

Well whatever he's doing is obviously making us suck in other things this year.

And I do think it's the players since their confidence is totally shot. But a totally new approach would at least make them feel they could get a fresh start.

Guys, the coach doesn't tell the players exactly what to do on the ice. He doesn't instruct them to pass to death. The issue is that there isn't any structure on the PP. There's no entry strategy. There's no cycle. There's no strategy to find open guys. Nothing.

No. But after seeing it 800 times, don't you think it's the coach's job to DRILL into the players' heads to NOT pass so ****ing much? Both parties are at fault here.

Coop put them on a shot clock/pass limit in practice. It's well publicized amongst fans.

Looks like the players really listened

Raise your hand how many actually feel this team is a cup contender.
Since everyone that played in the Cup Finals except Morrow is still here, I say yes. The 2 young guys you wanted to see improvement from: Vladdy and Jo, you have. If you can make the playoffs and get hot, any team can preform well in April and beyond. The biggest hurdle is just getting this team to the playoffs. We've won 5 of our last 7 games. Just need to keep chippin away. We've taken the hard path and made things difficult on ourselves, (and painful for us) but it's not impossible to get where we want to be.

There's no movement. We don't make teams scramble to keep up.

Are players messing up left and right? Absolutely. Is there a problem with the system? Absolutely.

I'm aware of that, and almost put it in my post, but didn't. I understand he's doing things in practice. These things aren't working, is what I'm trying to say. Both parties are to blame. If I were Cooper, I'd start treating them like children at this point.

"If you don't shoot the puck within 3 passes, we're bag skating. And we will continue to bag skate until you ****ing learn."

I'm saying it's on the players and the coach.

Absolutely this.

Once DeAngelo comes up from Syracuse we need to utilize a spread formation with 2 point men on the cycle. Give Drouin the right side, DeAngelo the left. Sure they'd have to pass on their back hands but for Drouin especially it would be home for him.

I share this optimism, they show glimpses of last year. I also like the play of Drouin Names Jam Vermin and Brown, which were not a huge part of our team last year. If or When (is the question) the regulars start to get some confidence again, I think we will be a better team all around. We know these guys can play.

That could be as long as two years from now. We're barely a week removed from DeAngelo being a healthy scratch in the AHL.

For the first time, I don't want Drouin with Stamkos. Our only decent line was our second line, and we've now broken that up to "promote" Drouin. Stamkos is like a black hole.

I'm not really worried about it, DFC. We dress 7 D almost half the time we play and DeAngelo can play sheltered minutes as a power play specialist. The young man can not possibly be worse than Sustr when he sees regular time on ice.

Still: We're probably at least a year from seeing DeAngelo in the NHL. And likely two years before he's a regular.

It's amazing that he went from being dominant to just good as soon as he switched lines.

I have no idea what the reason was, so I don't want to hold it against DeAngelo, but yeah you have to work with what we have now. This was the highest scoring team in the league last year. With our depth and the amount of skill and talent on this team, there's no reason we make something that gets results.
