Smith didn't get an unsportsmanlike. He got a verbal abuse. They are not the same thing

These clown referees are a nightmare. "Certain teams" jaw endlessly at the refs and are NEVER penalized, but we are Ottawa so not only are the calls all against and none for, but we get the extremely rare "Verbal abuse of an official". Get a life, loser and do your job properly. Like maybe don't give the non instigator the extra penalty. So lame and totally unaccountable.

Yup. At the face-off dot Pageau said something and Smith followed his lead before they went off for a change. A call I've never seen before and probably will never again, oh well.

I've usually seen it in this context:

Player- saying dumb shit
Ref- Yeah okay. Shut up now or you'll get a penalty.
Player- keeps saying dumb shit
Ref- Okay you get a penalty.

You don't see it often because it's really easy to avoid. Just shut up when the official tells you to.
