Skating doesn't win hockey games. Being a good hockey player helps. Pouliot was badly outmuscled on the back boards by Lee which led to a backbreaking 5th goal.

I already recognized that play. Is that the entire game for you? He made a lot of good passes and intelligent plays.

Did you like Tanev's game tonight?

You mean the last page?

So you only trust the opinions of those who agree with the picture you want to paint? That's fine. I'm just saying that I watched more than 15 minutes of the game and Pouliot didn't have a bad game. I'm not giving credit points for someone who's skating, I value whether or not he's creating offense and preventing scoring chances. His poor play in his own zone directly led to a goal against. There are others who agree with me, but your response to them was that they aren't making sense so....

Lol like Pouliot is the only Vancouver defenceman who makes poor plays that lead to goals. Take a number.

Pouliot does create offence by skating the puck out of the defensive zone, making good passes, and he is getting much better at finding openings to get his shot off. He might actually be the only Vancouver defenceman that can get his shot on net.

Missing Dorsett, can't believe I'm saying it but Dorsett would at least fight every shift... the guy might be overpaid a little but he is a ball of energy.

Guess who led the team in CF% and CF+/-, you already know..... It's gaunce baby!

Lowest CA too, you can't stop this man.

Great Corsi from an NHL forward who can't score a goal in 84 games. Awesome.

Love how our defense nearly kills our players when taking shots on goals. Sort of epitomizes the inability of out d-men to score. Contrast between our defense and the Islander defense in terms of offense is quite stunning. We have no one like Leddy. Not even close.

It's interesting to note that some of the cap dumps the Iles picked up, like Leddy have helped create good depth for the them. It has also freed up assets for them to trade which at the time are considered better (like Hamonic for whom they got a 2018 1st and 2nd plus an additional 2nd...the 1st would be a lottery pick right now).

That's a good example of how you can help a rebuild.

Meh got outplayed by an elite team. Islanders are skilled, deep and fast. If they get another top 4 d-man and a decent goaltender, they have good chance at going far this year.

Thought Stetcher, Horvat & Eriksson had strong games. The rest of the forwards looked weak, Virtanen who were very good against the rangers looked like confused again, Gaunce were decent but i think he should be playing C like he was vs the Rangers. Vanek showed a few flashes as usual and Boeser were too invisible.

Granlund, Baertshi, The Sedins, Gagner & Burmistrov, were bad, like really bad.

The defense exept for Statcher were beaten to pcuks lost to many board battles, overall weak in their zone. Unfortanatly all the defensemen is pretty weak offensevly, when you see a guy like Leddy it really makes you miss a good D-man that can play in any zone.

Nilsson was Ok, didnt like the 2-1 goal, for the Canucks to win games the Goalies cant let in goals like that.

Disagree.

Watched the entire game. Pouiot's skating was good, his passes were crisp and accurate. He displayed his instincts finding openings and getting his shot off...on net.

I actually saw him throw a couple of hits, despite being manhandled on the last goal by a 230 lb forward. He is far from the only Vancouver defenceman making mistakes but might be the only one who isn't hopeless offensively.

So you agree with me he was responsible for a direct goal against, hence it was bad. Regarding this particular game, since we are in the GET and not on the Pouliot thread, you agree with me. Funny that Bonose agrees too since he liked the post, so the problem must be in the time zone or something against the poster.

Funny, when you describe him, I thought I was reading something about a powerplay specialist like Marc-Andre Bergeron as his ceiling...

It was a complete cap dump by the Hawks right before the start of the season so they could be cap compliant. Leddy was 23, making nearly $3 mil a year and would be RFA in the summer.

New York Islanders Nick Leddy Johnny Boychuk Trade Anniversary

Blackhawks trade Leddy, get under salary cap

It's almost like cap space can be an important asset for whatever phase a team is in.

Really the Leddy trade was essentially the equivalent of Gillis' Ehrhoff trade except Leddy was 4 or 5 years younger.

Lots of guys with heavy legs tonight. Or, maybe the Islanders just made it look that way. This team misses Dorsett's example. Lots of guys taking nights off when Dorsett isn't in there busting his butt every shift.
It's not even december and this team looks gassed, just wait until the grind happens in january through march. This old team will be traveling road kill to the teams pushing for playoff spots.

All very fair. I interpret capdump as a negative asset/player who isn't worth his contract, but it's hard to argue with a literal meaning.

true but with the caveat that this was game 5 of a 6 game road trip against a team on a roll that plays a similar game and outmatches them in keys positions, and with our limited number of physical players absent.

i thought some players, particularly boeser, were angry about having their asses handed to them but were unable to respond except as useless individual efforts. we don't have an organized push yet.

Still replaying that Horvat goal. Wished Tavares didn't fall so it'd look a lot nicer but still enjoy the goal. Would've been cool to see Horvat fight off Tavares ala Tavares fighting off Giroux. That got replayed more than the entires series of Friends.

Two things you can count on after every loss. Y2k will be all over the GDT, and a couple of yahoos will call for Green's head.

So anyway... crummy game from a tired squad who have virtually no toughness in the roster. This is exactly the type of team a good home team with size feasts upon.

I will be surprised and disappointed if Goblin doesn't play next game though. Too bad we don't have much in the way of ill-tempered size to call up as well, other than Labate.

Hm, maybe despite their poor advanced statistics, Dorsett, Gudbranson and Sutter were providing intangibles?

The same intangibles that got us to SECOND LAST place in the standings last season. Hey, look we improved from THIRD LAST (the season before) to SECOND LAST with the addition of Guds.

More like it's a case of playing against a good team that worked and the Canucks lose compared to games where they outworked the other team (who didn't work) this season so far.
