Edler had 12 shot attempts... 8 blocked... Hahaha

Yep ... he doesn't seem to move laterally with the puck very well, so everyone just gets right in front. Stetcher's a great example of how to keep moving past the guys dropping to shot block.

Had to laugh at the furious beaver tailing Stecher was doing trying to get Edler to pass him the puck. lol From a rookie no less.

Despite the result, there were some good takeaways from this game.

The Horvat line was really dangerous, Bo is blossoming in front of our eyes, I couldn't tell if Megna was effective or was Bo making him effective. Burrows is also busting his ass out there, good to see the Burr of old.

Tryamkin played pretty well in limited minutes too, made smart small plays and was a man among children against a big Dallas team. Sbisa ended up playing a minute more, which doesn't look good for the big Russian once Tanev is healthy.

Stecher was great in the last couple minutes, he just finds a way to get his shot through, wished Edler deferred to him more.

I am really curious to see who is sent down once Tanev is healthy, waiver exempt Stecher, or Biega/Larsen?

He has a NTC thanks to the beloved Gillis and won't waive it./

You know, the Canucks don't HAVE to use Edler on the PP. They can CHOOSE not to use him there. For ***** sake ... are you doing to blame Gillis for all Willie's deployment choices?

How long ago was it, people were crying about Burrows "horrid Gillis plague contract?"
Seems all right at the moment.

Loved the last period (all I saw) and don't mind the loss. Great entertainment, lot's of fun hockey and coming away closer to trading players at the deadline and getting a high pick.

As for Edler, they've got to get him practicing getting his shot off quicker while moving laterally. Either that, or don't use him on the first unit.

Sad part of it is, a full strength lineup isn't that much better.

I think we would at least be competitive, I mean we are missing our best defensemen in Tanev, one of our best forwards and resident honeybadger, along with a winger that showed great in pre-season in Rodin. That would at least push Chaput, Labate, or Skille out of the lineup.

It's sad that Stecher has to bang his stick on the ice for Edler to notice he's wide open. Not much going on between the ears with him.

Every year seemingly everyone realizes that Edler sucks, then the offseason comes around.. and he's back to being a high potential prospect. Weird.

He was never really good, even back in 2011 he was a liability that couldn't get shots through.

If we're just talking about offesnive ability, yes, Edler's offense has been overrated for years and people still don't seem to grasp that barely getting 30 points when being fed the most PP minutes on your team is not exactly impressive. Tanev (who people call a "black hole") has outproduced Edler at even strength every year and Edler at one point went a full calendar year without scoring 5-on-5. He just has never been all that good of an offensive player and yet we still seem to think of him that way.

When you have Salo or Garrison taking the majority of your point shots you can live with Edler as a secondary guy, but since those guys have left his lack of ability in that regard should be blindingly obvious.

Take aways from this game:

Dallas are pretenders. Poorly constructed team. Overrated gm

Edler...what else is there to say that hasn't? 5 million dollar offensive black hole.

Edler on that last shift and Willie wasting 40 seconds before pulling Miller... :help:

He's a #4 dman *now*; I think he can get better. Him being a right side D is something that can't be overlooked IMHO.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

He's closer to being a 5 than a 3 and his handedness doesn't really matter, especially if he's not an offensive guy.

If he gets an NTC it'll be a joke.

Wouldn't say overrated but the shine is wearing off. He gave up very little assets to acquire Seguin, Spezza and Sharp but his goaltending plan has been a disaster and his defense might be worse now than when he got the job (which is saying something).

With Benn, Seguin and Klingberg in the fold they have the nucleus to create a contender. That they picked up Spezza, Sharp, Hemsky, Eaves and Hudler for basically nothing means that their GM is doing a great job.

The goaltending needs work though...

Poorly constructed overall? Definitely not.

If we had a GM wasting away benns prime years like this we'd be screaming bloody murder.
Dallas are going no where

If we had a GM that could pull off a Seguin trade, well, to his benefit instead of his detriment, there would be no way anybody around here would be crying foul. None.

DAL has the core pieces they need to compete now and later. The support has to be fixed. That is an enviable position to be in.
