From the last thread:

Nope, you are not alone.

Johnston's offense was heavily dependent on the breakout and transition from the defense working well. Injuries and scouting destroyed a lot of the effectiveness forcing forwards or defenders to move the puck 200 ft alone to get into the offensive end. Obviously Letang & Maatta are healthy. But I am not sure if Johnston has made the necessary adjustments to make this work in the NHL.

I have zero confidence in the coaching staff being able to make the PP work (and not because of Crosby or coachability either).

I'm also not sure we have the puck movers to work with that system. Over the last 2 years, our PMD have taken a massive hit by losing Niskanen, Martin, Despres and Ehrhoff. We've replaced them with Cole, Dumoulin and Lovejoy. I'm high on Dumoulin so I'd say that him and Despres would be a wash in terms of puck moving ability. However, Ehrhoff/Niskanen and Martin to Cole and Lovejoy is a massive downgrade. I don't think MJ's puck moving D system would work any better this year than it did at the end of last year. Luckily Johnston has shown he's willing to adapt, but he needs to do it really fast or the Pens are going to be in a deep hole to start the year. Even if we were to play all of our best puck movers (so Scuderi and Lovejoy out for Clendening and Pouliot), I still don't think our D would be good enough at moving the puck for that system to work.

The PP issue is an obvious one. How the PP looked at the end of last year was completely unacceptable, and even with Kessel, I'm not sure how much that will improve. Tocchet has done nothing to suggest he can set up a good PP and our top end players not being particularly good PP players doesn't help that either.

Scuderi playing and Kunitz on the first line makes NAO go crazy.

Has it been confirmed yet that:

- Clendening will sit in favor of Lovejoy?

- Bennett will play LW, while Perron plays RW?

- Farnham will play ahead of Porter?

Practice lines from yesterday were used since today was an optional skate.

I'm 100% assuming Farnham will play over Porter, though...not just because of the fact that he's been with the big team the entire time, but also because Dallas has Roussel.

Why does this thread say "OT" instead of "GDT?"

I was confused as to why I couldn't find the Game Day Thread -- and finally figured out it was hiding as an "Off Topic" thread... LOL!

I suppose if he HAS to play, then Lovejoy should be sheltered next to our best defender.

The third pairing will suck ass, too.

Lovejoy being on the 2nd pairing, Scuderi playing at all. It's gonna be a long year defensively. We'll score a lot of goals but **** me we're gonna get scored on a lot too. Well, at least hockey is finally back :)

curious as well... mostly great thread though... needed a hot dog photoshopped into Kessel's pic and a "Manly" reference to Bennet, but overall i am cool with it

Olli's trying to lower expectations early:

I tend to think this quote was meant for MJ to hear. Trying to convince him that even if they look bad out there together, that they still have chemistry...so DO NOT switch the pairs and put him with Scuderi.

Does anyone else think that Scuderi and Hatesad are going to hurt the offense as much or more than the defense? One of those two albatrosses (albatri?) will be on the ice for at least half the game. If they're trying to go all in on offense, the forgot to go all in.
