If it was true, the person laying the bet has f—k you money. It would be a joke to that person.

The other possibility is that, at another sports book, they quietly hedged against themselves. Whichever way the game turns out, they have a ridiculous winning bet to show off and the expected loss is a marketing cost, if you will.

And while I’ve never seen anything quite THAT crazy, a friend of mine once laid $10k to win $1400 on a four game parlay in the 2006 Olympics: CAN women to beat two soupcans, and CAN men to beat Italy and Switzerland.

You may remember 2006 as the year Canada outshot Switzerland like 50-20 or something and lost 2-0 :P last I heard from him, he’s never bet on a game since and sticks to poker.

BTW my Twitter and Instagram handles are both @gimlijetsman.

If you want your Instagram timeline spammed with my B-roll sports photos that don't end up in the paper follow that.

I literally cannot think of a single reason to follow my Twitter, and actively wonder why anyone would do such a thing.

TSN streaming is a garbage platform, and I wish I could be able to post about it freely.

f***ing ridiculous - I pay 240 bucks a year for the privilege of needing to illegally stream events they are supposed to play.

I agree. Also, the "augmented" feeds for football are not good... I don't want to see a bunch of stuff drawn on the screen over the play.

Apparently Sportsnet had the game last night, so TSN was just straight up lying, lol.

And now Twitter is refusing to allow tweets, lol - Why I restarted posting here.

Getting off Twitter increased my quality of life 100x. Same with FB when I did it years ago.

Now I just have IG (my feed is 75% cat videos with the rest being an equal split of bjj vids, raunchy memes, conspiracy theories and people hurting themselves) and this place where I have to deal with motherf***ers still bitching about PoMo lol

Humorous follow-up to this: I stayed at the same hotel at the same lounge on the way back. I was doing alright playing some boomer slot machine (very few lines, low payouts, just the basic 'fruit machine' symbols, bells and 7s and fruit and shit) and I heard the glorious clarion call of the new Price Is Right branded VLTs behind me.

Side note: this is the first time that I've seen a slot machine that tries to cash in on a modern revival of an old IP that uses the NEW imagery. Like when the Gal Godot "Wonder Woman" movie came out, there was a new batch of WW slot machines, but they used the Lynda Carter / 1970s iconography. Same with Kristen Stewart's forgettable Charlie's Angels re-re-re-re-boot, the Johnny Depp "Willy Wonka" movie, etc.

Anyways. Long story short, I went near to the felt for my $100 limit, but hit some crazy 5 minute bonus round and cashed out $280 and change, and *I swear*, the four people who gathered around me (who NOW had something to say!) were literally calling me crazy for "cashing out when the machine was hot!"

Like, I think I can give competent odds-based advice on gambling, even though there are many far better and smarter people than me, and time has shown I'm a middling talent in poker at best.

But when it comes to "mythology-based" gambling advice, like the kind the crusty old timers give to people 1/4 their age, there's one thing I've figured out that these kids need to learn:

I know where the 'cash out' button is, and I'm not afraid to use it :P

I really don't see the appeal of slot machines, especially ones that are digital.

In my head, they're all hooked up to the same computer, which is running a tally of how much money is inputted and calculating how much to payout.

If I'm gonna gamble, give me something physical to gamble on.

You never go far wrong getting out while you are still ahead. As a fairly crusty old-timer.

Those guys who advise staying with a 'hot machine' are the same ones who will only quit when they are broke. If then.

BTW - I still use an adblocker on this website because I find the ads don't load quickly enough so my screen bounces around.
I've essentially given up on this website thanks to the ad situation here. Now I'm being nagged on every page request because I use a blocker. Perhaps I'll become active again in the future if/when the people who run this place realize that long time active posters provide the content that generates their traffic and therefore shouldn't be nagged or milked for money - that honour should be reserved for the unregistered lurkers and registered members without any posts.

It's not like the casino or the machines won't be there tomorrow :P and while I know it doesn't change the long term math, it does change your mindset, essentially 'resetting' your psychology. Like the longer your session gets and the more you win, the less 'buzz' you get out of betting the same amount, which can prompt people to bet more or bet heavier than usual. But if you win $1k on an absolute heater, instead of doubling your bet, if you bug out early, take the wife to dinner or whatever and give her some shopping money (render unto Caesar...) and come back the next day with like half the profits, you'll get the same fun the next day for smaller bets than you would have the night before.

I'm aware this is rather unscientific, but just my observation over many years of a wasted youth. :P

It's like, remember on an old computer you'd load up your game and then have like 1-2 minutes to kill while it loaded from the disk? here it's like "load the webpage" then go get a glass of water so that I can finally scroll without it bouncing around.

Not gonna lie and not gonna disparage cause I love you guys and this little clubhouse, but these ads are the worst save for, like, streaming sites and such.

Quitting while you are ahead and then resetting some time in the future is like starting over with a new deck of cards. The math is reset.
Being able to quit while you are ahead is the most important 'skill' in gambling.

I pay the annual fee to sponsor. It is peanuts, like nothing at all if you spend any more than about 10 minutes a month here. I also have an ad blocker because it is there for everything else. It has stopped nagging me about it though and it does still intercept the odd ad here.

I whitelist sites that I want to survive but only if their ads are fairly unobtrusive. That is, they don't pop up on top of the content or keep the content bouncing up and down and they don't run with sound on. A panel on the side of the screen dedicated to ads works pretty well, or even one each side.

I had the site whitelisted for a while, but the ad situation with text jumping around the page got too unbearable.

Hot take: if Claude Noel was either our second or third coach, with the talent so much better than what he inherited, he'd still be our head coach today.

Amazing what a degenerational, once-in-50 bad goalies will do to a coach, huh.

In all seriousness, being a goalie is miserable.

If you're the 40th best winger on the planet, you're in an NHL team's top 6, and fans may be calling for you to get more ice time.

If you're the 40th best goalie in the world, then fans despise you.
