Dayuum, Avangard is pretty good already and if he can jump in the ongoing train the things could get nasty over there.

Avangard is actually in a dire need for another good center. They lost their best center in the last preseason game for like 6+ months (i.e. for almost entire regular), so, I think, the rumor has some base under it. Sushinskiy calling it a fake news, makes the situation kinda messy, though.

league general managers are not happy that they're getting bullied by restricted free agents. the amount that remain unsigned is unprecedented and the season is about to start. as it stands right now, it's a borderline crisis for the league as a whole that a big chunk of their best talent has formed this unified front that nobody is willing to cross until each member gets paid what they deem to be fair. they're challenging the entire restricted free agency process and it's a massive story. this seemingly misplaced frustration at zacha is part of a larger frustration that teams are losing control of that phase. basically, what we're seeing right now is foreshadowing of our next lockout.

No its not unprecedented. The DPE was littered with RFA contract disputes including one that took almost 2 years before it was resolved.

So this Czech article says they have "inside information from Zacha's agent": he's staying with the Devils after signing a three-year contract last night worth a little under 7 mill overall (so about 3x2.3 mil?) which will be announced sometime today.
The newspaper is reasonably credible when it comes to sport news; guess we'll see.
Well that de-escalated quickly

Couturier's offense came recently but he's always been a very good player.

Yeah, that's the point - Zacha is still a good player (considered 3C at this point by most), but the offense hasn't been there. It takes some time for that to get going for some players. For Zacha, it seems to be more of a confidence issue as he has flashes but until the end of last season was never able to keep the offense going on a consistent basis.

Hopefully this is true and if so it's a fair deal.

How is losing a 25 pt player a huge loss? That is replacement level production, so it is a small loss if at all.
Maybe because he just turned 22 and already very responsible in all situations. He is only going to develop more. He can be a 50 elite two way guy that’s can play in all situations. If he was 27+ then your point would be valid

Elite is a strong word. I’d say he 35-40 point better than average bottom sixer. He can carve out a nice career as more of a role player than anything.

A lot here seem to be confusing “has not met top 10 draft status” with “is a bad player.” Zacha, by no means, is a bad player. He’s a bonafide NHLer that most teams would welcome onto their roster. He’s very, very good on the PK, good defensively, increasing improving on the dot, and he has a great shot.

Only thing that would make this better is if Zacha announced he was firing Stefan for pulling the KHL stunt.

petterson seems better than hischier but both are high end talents. jury still out on hughes vs kakko.
Pettersson was not a realistic pick at #1 in 2017, that would have been a reach and an off the board pick. To get ahead of what I'm sure will be a response as well, that 1-3 teams supposedly had him at #1 (only reported after the fact anyways) does not mean he was a reasonable pick at that spot. The Devils absolutely made the right choice with that pick, but the 1st pick in the draft doesn't always end up being the best player. Not that this is even settled yet, as there is tons of development time for them still.

Anyone suggesting that they went wrong with Hughes is trolling.

Zacha is the only one that could have been done differently, as there was a group of about 7 guys that were all ranked and considered roughly the same.

If he leaves for the KHL, good riddance because as Shero said, once you leave it's a long way back and he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is.

Patrik Stefan will get something done.

I hope it isnt true. The smart move for Zacha is to sign a 1 year contract and bet on himself... His trajectory looked to be going up and he might regret that salary 3 years from now.

In either case... He should stay in NHL and show he is worth it. Drama around him every year.

Ive been begging for a pool party for Zacha trade. Zacha is the 3C if Edmonton's dreams and would help our pk a lot. Plus he has learned the hard part of the game... The offence might still come.

He would be a great 3C for Czech team too... Behind Hertl and Krejci.
