Tavares had those 5 points in two games coming out of the All Star Game and it seemed like he may be heating up a bit with that bit of rest, but went back to just 3 points in 8 games after that. He's no longer that good on the Powerplay anymore and it seems like Bertuzzi is taking his spot on PP1. He's 11th amongst Leaf Forwards in Even Strength 5 on 5 Points Per 60 (all those 11 have 33+ games played).

Forget contract, the roster assembly is what is what is. The Leafs have to be acting serious questions about how exactly they should be fitting John Tavares into the Playoff roster to maximize success in the posteason at this point. Probably 3rd line/PP2 unless he pulls it together the last quarter of the season.

While I don't think Hyman puts up those numbers on any other team, I'd still take him. His versatility can't be understated, the guy can play anywhere in the lineup, he's a great penalty killer and a menace on the forecheck.

Tavares is still decent and if we ignore his $$$ it's close between him and Hyman since he is a C and still producing.
Hyman is red hot at the moment so the timing of this thread was setting up JT for less votes. Only TML homers voted for him.
