I personally don't see many current Leafs that suit what our 4th line should be.

UFA wingers - Wayne Simmonds, Zemgus Girgensons, Matt Martin, Tyler Pitlick, Riley Sheahan

UFA centres - Brad Richardson, Nate Thompson, Tomas Nosek

He is done and next to useless.

I think he could be utilized in a limited roll, like being on a 8-10min 4th line. With Engvall being speedy and somewhat tenacious on the forecheck, a good passer in Spezza, and Simmonds able to crash and bang, could be a decent ex all-star 4th line.

Nate and Martin would be a nice addition to the fourth.

I voted for Adam Brooks because he gets no love here. He's easily over-shadowed and maybe a borderline player, but he's not really a lot different then other prospects that constantly appear.

Didn’t vote Barabanov for the simple reason that he’ll likely be on the third line.

Engvall-Thornton-Simmonds for me

More like the X porn stars waiting for that ability to crash and bang to come back again.:sarcasm:

Engvall, Thornton and Spezza. All can play C. Engvall can move up to 3rd line LW if injuries. Thornton (8-10/night won't kill him) passing to Spezza, who still has a shot, is a threat. Spezza because he's the only Leaf who will fight.
I don't know enough about Rodriguez, but he sounds interesting. Brooks, I just like him, smart, works hard, eventually starts to impact, plays C. Perry...mayyyyybe?

Simmonds would become "a bad signing" before long

It depends what his salary is. It always depends on what the salary is. As a 4th Liner, his minutes would be minimal. He can view this the same way Bergevin viewed the Kovalchuk signing, assuming there aren't any off-ice issues. If you ask me, I think overpaying players who are RFA's are bad signings. Not by their talent, but by the Cap consequences.

If you were able to shave $1-1.5M per player who were on RFA's, you have alot more cash to play with. Ultimately, the flat cap is a horrible surprise for all teams, but, it's also a wakeup call. Some contracts in the NHL are going to look like grand slams from the players perspective now, as newer signings won't receive as much.

There is a chance, that like the purge in 2005 after the lock out and when the league decided to (in many ways temporarily) enforce the letter of the law on penalties and many old school players just weren't signed. Many were viewed as just too slow to continue in the league and they put out to pasture by circumstance.

I think we are going to see some of this now, with the flat cap, the pandemic and the expansion. Some players are going to be on much cheaper contracts with the uncertainty, others will be out of the league.

Korsh/goat/eng

is my 4th line

something like

robert/jumbo joe/bara as my 3rd

kerf and johnsson long long gone

spezz as my 13th

that gives us 4 options for bottom 6 Cs joe/spezz/goat/engvall

Nylander the 1 option for top 6 Cs rep

We are cap crunched, our defence is in shambles and beyond our top 6 not in any sort or good place and people on this board are expecting us to sign players like Simmonds, Perry or Thornton to our 4th line. Look maybe these two players will sign for 700K but I can’t imagine one let alone two willing to do something like that. Also we would have the slowest line in the history of the NHL. I am All for bringing some NHL leadership/Vets but this in NHL 21 on the PlayStation Pie in the Sky thinking.

Sorry to be pragmatic here sort out our D, ideally our goalie situation quasi long term (3-4 years) then worry about who fills in our bottom line.

As it goes

Barabanov Engval Korskov
(Spezza as the 13th forward if he will sign for league min)

Barbanov didn't come over to NA to play on an NHL 4th line. He's coming over to put up some points and earn a contract. Our Portuguese friends would like to let you know it's "Rodrigues".

I've seen Dubas' patterns now. Engvall, Brooks, Spezza. Extra forward: Gauthier. Waiting in the wings Hallander, Korshkov.

Malgin gets qualified but bolts to Switzerland. Rodrigues isn't qualified and becomes a UFA.
