If he does, I'm done with him, no matter how goofy and likeable he is.
He’s either gonna be the reason we lose or we’ll win and no matter how he played, whether it was a 30 save shutout or 3 or 4 goals on 22 shots, he’ll be back in against Vancouver on Tuesday night.

Tonight's game is important and Risky.

important
-- keeping the winning attitude and confidence going, plus the standings

Risky
--an easy team to beat, so the Devils do not play 100% for 60 minutes. Mistake
-- last night, the Sharks played Boston. Givani Smith, 6 feet 2", 214 pounds, ran at the Bruins Captain, who is 5 feet 9", 186 pounds, and hit him from behind. Boston was winning at the time; Boston won 3-0. The Bruins considered the hit from behind to injure their Captain. Watch Out Devils, we have enough players out. Who are our muscles that we could afford to lose by a suspension? Don't be stupid, Devils, protect your players the legal way.

I wish Schmid was playing the back to back for confidence building but I think Vitek will play.

Lets Go Devils

Toffoli is GREAT

on pace for 47-35-82, neutral defensively, been worth twice his salary.

Wish he was 3 years younger...
I’m going back and forth on an extension for him. He’s a great fit right now. And I could see him aging well considering he basically just glides around and finds soft spots in the D. But time does come for all.

Really disappointed in Brendan Smith's retaliation yesterday. He really shouldn't be hitting Konecny up around the shoulders with his stick like that. The shoulders have the most padding -- he should have swung at least 4 inches higher to get near the throat / chin area of TK. Hopefully a point of emphasis so he can have better aim next time.

Toffoli reminds me of Pavelski. I really wouldn't have an issue going like 7x3
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. giving a guy 7m for his 32-35 seasons seems not very smart. If they didn't give Palat that contract, maybe. But if Toffoli drops off a cliff (which he might, because mother nature is undefeated), paying he and Palat a combined $15m for the next 3 years isn't going to do awesome things to our cap health.

If they can move Palat this offseason I'm all for a 3/20 type of deal. But there are some other mouths we need to feed soon -- Luke won't be cheap.

I love Toffoli (as previously stated) and he's a great fit.

But if there's one thing I don't think we're ever gonna be short of in this league is good wingers on expiring contracts. I'd probably prefer to roll the dice on Fitz coming up with another than lock in on a guy into his mid 30s. We have the luxury of having locked down and elite 1C and 3C combo, and a pair of top-end play driving wingers, why not use the flexibility that gives us on the ice to maintain some flexibility on the cap?

Palat's still on his NMC for next year and I doubt he's waiving. He needs to be dumped after next season. That's a given with or without Toffoli. They can make it work with Toffoli. Pavelski started his initial deal with Dallas at 35. Toffoli would be younger than that the entirety of a 3 year deal. 32-34 is fine.

Palat and Hamilton are both signings where NJ had to pay the bottom feeder tax. Both have contributed to the team turning the corner so it's hard to be too disappointed. If those contracts were signed today both would be for less AAV. For Hamilton maybe a little less, maybe $750k less per year but for Palat, he's probably taking about $1.25 million less per year. Just my thoughts.

I feel like you're hyper-focused on using one of the very, very, very few examples of "an NHL contract being handed to a 32+ year old that wasn't immediately atrocious". I understand that there are reasons why Toffoli might not age horribly, but Palat wasn't exactly known as a speedster either and mother nature has already started clapping his proverbial cheeks.

I don't think you can give Toffoli and Palat $15m per year for their age 32-34 and 33-35 seasons and feel comfortable. Especially when Holtz, Mercer, Luke, Bahl, Schmid, and Nemec will all need to be re-upped during that time.

Palat already wasn't great when he was signed. He was a fine complimentary 2nd liner who was propped up by 2 of the best players in the league. Toffoli's had back to back incredible seasons and last year he did it without the help of stars. It's not the same. It shouldn't be "15 mil per year for Toffoli and Palat" because Palat should get dumped. If he doesn't then Fitz is just lost
