Was stat surfing and saw a Dallas draftee playing in the WHL with the name Logan Stankoven.
I think there was some uncertainty with Vitek struggling, Schmid playing so well, and Blackwood getting healthy. So I think at this point they are establishing VV as the game 1 starter and letting him get in a rhythm. I think he gets 3 of the last 4 games.
I remember Stankoven from Juniors. Dude is going to have the best nickname ever. Stanky. Give em the stanky leg.

He was VERY good in the Rangers game. But lets rest our guys, I see no issue. Division is a long shot anyways.

Looks like the Rangers played a tough, physical game last night against Tampa - they've back at it tonight on the road in St. Louis. A Devils win & Rangers loss would put NJ up by 5 points with 3 games left, which would more or less lock them into the #2 seed and allow them to rest some players and get Luke in a couple games.
1st place is probably not happening, though Carolina has a tough schedule still: @NSH, @BUF, @ OTT, VS DET (back-to-back with travel), @FLA (who may be fighting for a playoff spot still).

They likely want Vanecek to get another win, he hasn’t had two in a row in a while.
Not thrilled with Blackwood getting the last home game but he might get the Sabres. Maybe the Bruins? I assume Vitek would want the last game to get ready for the playoffs.
Yeah, not sure why Blackwood isn't getting the start tonight. Doesn't make much sense.
Have to assume Vitek plays Saturday against Boston - do they then give him 4 days off if they play Blackwood against Buffalo and stark Vanecek in the finale to get ready for the playoffs?

Establishing the puck possession game should be our number one priority heading to a first round match up with the strangers… they can’t hang if we play that game. See 1st period highlights of our last game for evidence.
If Vitek wants to play and is feeling good let him cook. We’re not overloaded with games so I don’t think the start order really matters.

Perfectly fine with Vitek getting the game tonight, he deserves it. It's time to start running with him in net in preparation for Game 1. He'll have plenty of days off in between to get rested up, as well.
Because one of the prevailing theories is that his recent struggles are due in part to having a higher workload than he's ever dealt with in the past.
The most games he's played in a season is 44, which was last season during which he seemingly struggled in the playoffs as well (appears he had one good game with a .938 SV% and one bad one with a .737 SV% against Florida before giving up 1 goal on 4 shots in a start against Boston, before being replaced by Craig Anderson...maybe due to injury?). Regardless he had a .855 SV% in the playoffs last year.
He's already up to 50 games with the Devils this season with playoff starts looming.
Not sure I buy the argument regarding workload and I trust the staff to manage it properly with how Vitek is feeling, but seemed like a game the backup would get since we're playing one of the worst teams in the league and then the best.

I doubt they’ll play him against Boston, but you could be right on Buffalo instead of the finale in Washington.
If Vitek played the Buffalo game, but not the Washington game, then that is potentially 6-7 days between games.
