Hope they are playing so well, none are needed. But, another quality D man would be good.

From multiple sources Leafs are looking for a player with term. I think the Leafs/Dubas 2021 trade deadline "Something for Nothing" tour last year where they gave up 6 pics for short term purposes has been a lesson learned.

  • Josh Manson (currently injured) - UFA - but good defender with an edge.
  • Jacob Chycryn - has term, currently having a crap year but has historically been a good defender. Makes me wonder if he was good because he was good or if he was good because he had OEL?
  • JT Miller, has term was one of a few Canucks who had a great season in a bad situation. Love this guy ever since he played with Tampa

All have cap implications but then again anyone who we bring in has cap implications.

Manson would be nice. Exactly what we need.

I would prefer to ante up for a 1.5 year or more player like Miller or Chychrun. Failing that maybe a cheap depth addition like Brassard or perhaps a reclamation project like Myers with Holl/Ritchie/Dermott going the other way.

But spending a 1st or 2nd on another rental, pass.

Klingberg, Miller, Manson, Luke Schenn

the last 3 are probably realistic. But I think Klingberg would be the best fit along side Muzzin. Highly mobile, puck moving defenseman. He would improve our PP even more whether it’s unit 1 or two. Our PP struggles in the playoffs

The QC
#4 defenceman who can play in the 3,4,5,6 slot. Someone with some size, physicality (i.e. a cycle stopper) and an at least average first pass.
#7 defenceman of the same ilk as above realizing they would only be able to play in the 5,6,7 slot.

No first round picks sent out. Can give away players. No players coming back from injuries.

For me goal/dynamic scorer over dman.

BUT I'm not totally against Dman, and would welcome it if it was the right piece.

Goal scoring has been the biggest weakness for us in the last 3 series.

Florida has much better names on the back end than us(to the untrained eye) but as a team, we play better defensively.

The Leafs are actually a solid defensive TEAM(forwards included), which is why I want the forward more.

100% agreed .. here here .. playoffs come down to having 3 lines and 2 sets of D and a couple specialists on 4th line and 3rd pair .. and a hot tender ..

Bunting - Matty - Wayner
Mik - JT - Mitch
Kerfoot - Kampf - Willy

Rielly- Brodie
Muzzy - ???

Josh Manson. Big RHD who's a physical presence. We will need a big body like that for the playoffs. Muzzin is injury prone and our only physical D. We need a guy to punish the opponents and keep the front of the net clear. We may be able to get him a little cheaper with his injury. No team stays completely healthy in the playoffs. If we make a deep run, we will likely lose at least 1 D-man. I want to bolster the top 4 D more than a top 6 LW. Mikheyev looks like he can fill the void as our LW.

Also we need to make this roster into a cup favorite. We will be playing Florida or Tampa. Forget about a deep run, we need to be able to compete and beat those teams. This roster won't get it done against Tampa. Against Florida maybe, but if we end up playing the Bolts (which if we want to make a run we will have to at some point) we'll get killed with this current roster. Not that it isn't good, but Tampa has one of the best rosters post-lockout.

To Toronto: J.T. Miller (50% retained)
To Vancouver: Alex Kerfoot + Nick Robertson + 2023 1st Round Draft Pick

Cap Savings: 875k

To Toronto: Connor Murphy + Marc-Andre Fleury (50% retained)
To Chicago: Petr Mrazek + Travis Dermott + Nick Ritchie + Roni Hirvonen

Cap Savings: 450k

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Miller - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Rielly - Murphy
Muzzin - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren/Holl

Campbell - Fleury

I honestly think that is a true Stanley Cup contending roster. Ideally we’d use the cap savings in acquiring a better 4th line center but I’ll just leave it as those two moves.

Go big: Chychrun.

Don't forget how young he is (23). He's already quite poised for that age. His defensive skills will just get even better with time.

Pay the big price for him.

Second choice - Manson or Soucy

Thats ideally what I'd like as unlikely as it is. Lindholm would have to agree to resign at most 7x7.

Only thing on my list is no stupid trades, and no major assets (1st, 2nd, notable prospects) for rentals.

Could care less if we do nothing as a result, but there are some smart moves we can make to help out the team without making a stupid trade.
