Was kiiiiinda hoping for Dundo to make a splash today or yesterday just to amp up this exciting game. It's on brand as others have said but I'd much rather wait for the right deal.

With an Ovi-less Caps team this is one we should win. However, playing a game in these conditions is unique for the players so I don't think it's just another home game. I'm fully on the "just have fun" bandwagon at this point in the season. Let's hope for the win, but it's not a big deal either way and let's enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Go Canes.

Went to the festival downtown last night. Streets and restaurants just flooded with Canes jerseys. And then the loads of randos, everything from night workers to the club crowd to homeless, mixing into the festivities. People who had very obviously stumbled into the party out of curiosity, walking around like “let’s go Canes!”

Got my oil changed this morning and the lobby TV was on WRAL’s morning news. It was just segment after segment about this game.

The local impact of this is huge. This is the kind of thing that moved the needle in terms of how locals think of the team as part of the fabric of the city.

The hockey purists from the “traditional” market areas probably don’t approve of such hoopla 😂😂

It’s amazing how much more engaged the fanbase has gotten since Dundon bought the team. I see people wearing orders of magnitude more canes fear than I used to. I’m eating lunch at an Alpaca before work, and there are no fewer than three people wearing a canes hat/shirt in here currently. I remember hosting the all star game being a huge deal, but this seems to be on a totally higher level. Hyped doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Also I should say that my brother and I went to see Superchunk play as part of the festivities last night. Great local band who has been a staple of Raleigh for 30 years. Whoever is Stormy this year is an absolute mad lad. Stormy came over and started going crazy dancing with everybody. He looked like he was trying to start a mosh. Dude was jumping up and down and having the time of his life. The band got into it and it really made the show click. One dude even picked up Stormy and put him on his shoulders and carried him around for a solid minute.

This is obviously a photoshop, because I’ve been told by very reliable sources that Raleigh is not a hockey market.
