Why load up with vets? If you're moving on, let the kids play. Why are they blocking McM, Protas, and Lapierre with a guy coming off of two achilles injuries? Hell, they even gave him a full No Movement Clause, so its not like they're going to get value from Patches at the trade deadline. This deal is just utterly perplexing.

He’s got a No Movement clause for one season after he missed a ton of time with an injury. That sounds just like last season for the Caps, might as well run it back. Given the age of the roster and the injury history the kids will have plenty of opportunity to play.

It would be nice to see Patches make a comeback. But he's blown out the same Achilles twice, so the odds are not in his favor.

According to MacKenzie the bonus structure is $1 million if he plays 10 games, $500k if he plays 15 and another $500k if he plays 20. Which is hilarious.

Amazing deal if he can stay healthy. He's such a phenomenally underrated player, an excellent goal-scorer in his day, and still has the touch.

Underrated? All I read is how good of a player/goalscorer he is, how unfortunate it is that he's so injured. Which is also why Carolina acquired him

But he played a full season once in the past 6 years during a covid shortened season.

And hasnt played over 50 games in the past 4, missed the playoffs (injured) in the past 2. From injuries that put other players at the door of retirement

Hes had a really solid career... and if healthy im sure he can still pile up points, but expecting anything out of him at this point is based on hope
