Nice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
They don't want to admit it's over.Nice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
Trying to get OV the record. Slipping into obscurity for 15-20 years.Nice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
Shedding contracts of people they weren't going to re-sign while getting something for them. Trying to retool without a complete teardown basically.Nice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
here's what a local caps blog has to say: Capitals Rumors Roundup: The Latest Rumors Surrounding Washington And The 2023 NHL Trade DeadlineNice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
It’s the best choice to ensure they’re at least competitive moving forward. This year was a mess and they were still in it until the end.here's what a local caps blog has to say: Capitals Rumors Roundup: The Latest Rumors Surrounding Washington And The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline
"GM Brian MacLellan has talked about contract extensions with pending unrestricted free agent defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Trevor Van Riemsdyk. Friedman said MacLellan is trying to see who is open to extending their contracts, what they want in their next deals, and if it makes sense for the team before making decisions."
"LeBrun tweeted on Friday morning that as late as last week Washington was still having contract negotiations with Gustafsson and Jensen, who can also become unrestricted free agent on July 1. They were struggling to re-sign Orlov, especially with term, before trading him to Boston. Friedman said that Washington was not looking to go beyond three-to-four years with Orlov, who wanted close to eight on an extension."
It seems like they're selling everything they can that won't be around next year.
Trying to reset/retool briefly. They have a bunch of UFAs so they’ll sign who they can sign and see if they can get deals on the restNice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
Also naming a bunch of dudes that aren’t getting younger and injuries are apart of it. Their bodies will continue to deteriorate and will lose speed. It’s the best choice to ensure they’re at least competitive moving forward. This year was a mess and they were still in it until the end.
To recap the season: the Caps have the most man-games lost to injury in the NHL this season. They started without Wilson until 2023 and then he got hurt again after eight games all the while his replacement, Connor Brown, tore his ACL four games into the season, Carlson suffered a season-ending injury in January, Kuemper missed time, Backstrom missed half the season with hip resurfacing surgery and has been working his way back, Dowd (best 4C in hockey — change my mind) went on IR in January, Kuemper was hurt, etc.
Also, this sell-off isn’t surprising. The Caps started the year with 11 players on their 23 man roster entering UFA status this off-season and their GM said this year would determine a lot of their futures. This season didn’t work out and he made moves.
They won’t be on anyone’s short list of Cup contenders next season but they can still be good enough to compete for a playoff spot.
1) They had been holding contract talks with their pending UFAs, talks that were going well or poorly with individual guys.Nice deal. I still don't really understand what the Caps are doing.
all he's done is improve since his time as a Red Wing, as improbable as that seems. guy's mobility is just nuts right nowJensen at $4M?
Jesus.
Good for him.
But I walk away from that shit, easy.

Niskanen in his prime put up 46 points. Now try watching him play
Ridiculously good deal, no idea how they got both the term and the cap hit so optimized. Thought he'd either be 4x6 or 7 or 5+ at this term.
Extremely solid mobile two way D who has become a lot like prime Niskanen minus the hitting
