It is very telling though looking at Boston left side on D and knowing they still didny want him
Perhaps. But perhaps not.

it will be more telling to see how Chara actually does w the Caps depth to partner with him and manage his minutes.

as has been mentioned here quite often, it’s far harder for an icon (and a Captain to boot) to work in a relegated role for the team he lead and starred on. Far easier for a new teams and environment. Most “demotions” in life happen at new places, not the current ones. At least, the demotions hardly stick at the same places, as people leave.

so let’s see how he does before we assume Boston was smart and the Caps are stupid?

Blah ahhaha ..sorry had to laugh at that.. pens top 6 of sid ( top 5 player of all time) , malkin ( first ballot hall of famer), rust , kap, Jake ( 40 goal guy), Zucker, ..come on.. pens are faster there and deeper, remove sid and it might be close... dumo is easily the best defensive guy on either team, letang still very good, Marino in fact is probably gonna be the best D on either team this year... the only advantage the caps have is the bottom 6 forwards. The goaltending on both teams in a huge ? Mark but most would take jarry over the caps duo anyway... still the caps may finish ahead but pens woukd beat em in a playoff round

Sid-Ovi = Tie. One scores all the goals and hits the shit out of people. One is a legendary grinder/playmaker. Both are legendary and generational.

Malkin- Bäckström = Malkin, but not by a large amount. The injuries make it closer.

Kuznetsov- Jake = Kuznetsov most days/seasons. Could change this season if Kuzy doesn´t get back to form and Guentzel keeps his production up.

Vrana- Kapanen = Vrana so far. He will probably score more this year.

Rust- Wilson = Very different players. Rust had a good year last season but Wilson brings other things and has done so for a while.

Oshie - Zucker = Quite clearly Oshie. Similar point production but Oshie brings a lot more to the table.

Are the Caps now the hardest team to play against? OV, Wilson, and Chara! That’s three heavy bangers.

Outside of those three Hathaway is tough SOB too. Oshie is a pain to play against too which I think goes under the radar. Google Oshie reverse hit.

I think that with Lavi behind the bench the Caps are going to be flying around and playing a physical game, going to be tough to play.

The best part about the team they have put together is that they can play a bunch of different styles, high scoring back and forth, no problem, 1-0 lead no problem, wanna get chippy no problem

There is no reasonable opinion thay puts ovie ahead of sid.. its just not gonna happen.. 3 cups, 2 cup mbos, gold medals...its not about individual awards its about being the best and championships.. sid is light years ahead and will finish as a top 5 player of all time ... the rest is rudimentary. Malkin is the next best player on either team by a long shot ... Jake will score more goals than anyone on the caps not named Alex. Not sure why this matters... as a team pitt is deeper top 6 amd less deep bottom 6.. top 4 D of Pitt is just as good or better. Marino could heavily shift the tide and by seasons end he could be the best D on either team.. caps bottom pair of chara and Shultz vs pens cici and MM....does it really matter?? Both are awful but the pens bottom pair has more potential is MM can find his skill. Goaltending wash.. jarry could be a top 5 or 5 or could be awfully average .. expect them to be close.

Not saying one team is smart or dumb. Just bringing people back to reality when talking about his play and his ice time

Assuming this is about the players right now (hence the comparison of multiple player vs. player that you were responding to), past championships and gold medals have 0 bearing on a players contributions to their team in the upcoming season lol.

OvechkinCrosby
19/20 - P/GP23rd13th
19/20 - G/GP2nd (won rocket)36th
18/19 - P/GP19th5th
18/19 - G/GP1st23rd
17/18 - P/GP15th12th
17/18 - G/GP1st51st
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Over the last 3 seasons, Ovechkin has been the significantly better goalscorer, and Crosby has been a marginally better point producer. Ovechkin has also been healthier, and better in the playoffs in each of the past 3 seasons.

To say that there is no reasonable opinion is just pure ignorance.

Pure fact!!! Unless ovie turns over a least one more Stanley cup with an MVP to boot , its not easily close... good medals x 2 , cough cough, 3 cups, 2 mvps, this isnt even close .. as individual stats yeah its close , as champions ...not even close .. Wayne, orr mario , howe, crosby..top 5 all time

Better at playing physically as well.

Marino is a rookie and even as good as he looks he'll probably need seasoning and experience to be able to handle deep playoff runs, even assuming he doesn't regress. Dumolin is a solid stay at home guy, possibly better defensively than Orlov but doesn't offer his offence or physicality.

Pend system has also been most mobile D friendly of any system in the league since Crosby, scary to think what Orlov would look like in a system that turned Daley into a threat

Seriously, someone is still relying on team awards to try to justify a player v player argument? In 2021?

It's a team sport, and even the best of the best need a lot of help to win. Ovie never had as much help as Crosby.

And crediting Crosby for those team Canada medals is hilarious. Replace Crosby with John Scott and they still win.

Dumoulin may not put up the same point totals as Orlov, but his impact overall on the ice is the team outscoring the other team. It's not like he is Brooks Orpik out there.

Yeah he's a good D no argument there. Just feel like Orlov offers more. I'd take Dumolin if I needed someone to babysit a Mike Green type and Orlov if I needed someone with more offensive/physical impact at the expense of positional defense
