Well that wasn’t fun for me to watch until now but I’ll take it. Lehner wins again. Will Fleury play this weekend?

That goal doesn't happen without Cousins skipping his change and pressuring the puck.

Glad we got that win, but the effort from 75% of the team for the first two periods will not get it done in the long run.
Also, not liking Stepho at 1LW, if Patches isn't healthy for the b2b, put Tuch there.

I also bet the over (6) and regulation tie at the fake sportsbook, so I made some fake dough!
I was gonna break the bookies legs for not paying me out my fake dough.... then I realized I bet all my fake money on the series no the game :laugh:

If Nosek can't go I'd guess the 4th line will be Brown-Cousins-Reaves. Carrier/Stepho can bounce around between 1/3 LW.

Or Tuch could get on that top line and Carrier-Stephenson-Roy is a high energy, hard working, responsible, physical line with some skill and grit.

Blackhawks aren't deep at forward or defense to worry about them overmatching any of those lines.

Stastny showed up for the playoffs, as he always does. People spend the entire regular season thinking oh we just trade him and then we solve our cap problems. Then you realize we may not get out of the first round without him.

So once again, what do you do about the two goalies after this year???

Were you waiting for him to finally get a point to post this?

No, it's a serious question. Are people really proposing spending around $14m a year for two goalies still?

Yes. 10 out of 10 times.

Stastny a year older, Glass in a lesser role, relying on Fleury vs. Glass a year older in a bigger role, Lehner and Cousins returning. I don't think the first option is so much less risky than the second. Let alone the season after that.

It wouldn't matter if Stastny were a superman if all they had were Fleury a few months shy of 37 and Dansk to backstop them in the playoffs.

It isn't ideal but Fleury isn't going anywhere with that contract and they need a starter level goalie with him to make sure we have the goaltending capable of winning, that's costing 5 million or more no matter who it is and Stastny is the one who makes the most sense.

Nice to get the win.

Lehner now 7-0 in a Knights jersey.

What do you do if all you have is Fleury and he gets injured? That’s one reason the trade was made for Lehner.

Unfortunately we don’t have any young players ready to take over soon for Fleury.

What do you do when you move Stastny and Glass continues to struggle and/or be injured? Having 5m+ sitting on the bench every single game is not good cap management.

My personal opinion is you try to get sell Lehner on 1 more short cheap contract with the promise that once Fleury expires they'll make it up to him and he'll be the guy long term. Now, that most likely won't work so then I'd look at the UFA market and find a cheap quality back-up that can spell Flower for 25-30 games, like Greiss.

Anyways there's no point in getting worried about all this now. Who knows how the playoffs will play out? Lehner could falter and Fleury could lead us to the Cup and then it won't even be a question as to what we do in the offseason.

The flat cap has changed a lot of things, but don't forget there's another expansion draft coming and Vegas is exempt. If someone scratches their back, Vegas can sure scratch theirs...

They might have a few cap tricks up their sleeve yet.

They are against the cap with Stastny still on the team or replacing his cap hit with Lehner.

They don't have the money for Greiss next season if Stastny is here. It's a playoff with Fleury pushing 37 and Dansk or someone similar.

I'm not sure why people have more confidence in that than 22 year old Glass with a full season under his belt and more strength, played in his preferred position, replicating Stastny's 42 or 38 points he's had with us.

There's a decent chance he could have come close this season if they kept playing him at center on a line with Pacioretty.

I’m not confident the team can acquire a decent backup for Fleury. I would prefer that option. Last season there was talk of an upgrade at backup and the team decided to keep Subban.

I’m not ready to give up on Glass yet. I strongly prefer him over any goalie prospects the team has.

Yes, having 5m+ sitting on the bench every single game is not good cap management, but I would say the big mistake was giving Fleury that big extension, not giving a younger Lehner his money.

We saw how bad the Sharks goaltending was with DeBoer and I’d hate to see our team have that problem. Lehner is really fun to watch. It’s a big reason this Knights team is fun to watch (admittedly Stastny is another reason too).
